nCORE JOB SUMMARY

nThe Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is experiencing a period of expansion and is seeking exceptional candidates to join the faculty.    The University of Miami is considered among the top tier institutions of higher education in the U.S. for its academic excellence, superior medical care, and cutting-edge research . nThis is a full-time Associate Professor of Clinical position in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

nCORE JOB FUNCTIONS

nnnProvide ophthalmology medical and surgical services as needed according to service rotation and call schedule.  If indicated , will rotate to other sites within the University of Miami Health S ystem according to schedule set by the Chairman and/or Service Director.

n

nnBe active in the education of residents and medical students i n the s ervice.

n

nnMaintain high clinical quality, productivity and citizenship within the department, e.g., attendance and participation in lectures, rounds, committee assignments, academic activity, etc.

n

nnRepresent the department with clinicians, trainees, and staff who are based at affiliates and referral practices, doing so with professionalism and engagement .

n

nnDevelop referral and educational relationships within the University of Miami Health System and with other practices on the regional and national levels.

n

nnDevelop a regional and eventually national presence as a clinical leader through participation in national and regional meetings.

n

nnDevelop, maintain and, as appropriate , secure funding for academic /research activities, such as translational research, clinical trials and other clinical research .

n

nnDevelop and/or participate in quality assurance protocols and clinical outcome studies for Bascom Palmer Eye Institute .

n

nnPerform administrative and committee responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Ch airman or Service Director, which may include participation in, or organization of, continuing medical education courses in provider area of specialty.

n

nnBe willing to see patients at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute satellite locations depending on departmental need as determined by the Ch airman and Service Director.

n

nnE xpected to abide by and conform to all u niversity policies and procedures including University of Miami Medical Group Bylaws, hospital bylaws, and those policies and procedures required by University agencies, vendors or other third parties . The faculty member is expected to be familiar with the University faculty manual.
