This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced supportive housing, residential services, or behavioral health leader who can step into an established program, lead a multidisciplinary team, and ensure continuity of operations during a five-month leave coverage.
The program is a 255-unit residential community, including approximately 153 supportive housing residents and 102 affordable housing units. The supportive housing population includes individuals with histories of homelessness, severe mental illness, substance use, and HIV/AIDS-related service needs.
What You'll Lead
As Program Director, you will have overall responsibility for program operations, staff leadership, resident services, compliance, and crisis management.
You will work alongside an existing Assistant Director and oversee a team that includes Case Managers, a Senior Case Manager, Resident Managers, administrative staff, and other operational personnel.
Key Responsibilities Include

Oversee clinical, administrative, residential, and building-related program operations
Ensure residents receive appropriate supportive case management services
Manage resident concerns, escalations, and complex behavioral health situations
Provide leadership during crises using strong de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills
Oversee intake and occupancy efforts and support the program in maintaining capacity
Ensure compliance with applicable HASA, ESSHI, and other contractual and performance requirements
Monitor program budgets, contracts, documentation, and reporting
Conduct internal audits and quality assurance reviews
Oversee unit inspections and other residential compliance requirements
Facilitate staff, clinical, and resident/community meetings
Provide staff training related to harm reduction, substance use, mental health, and crisis response
Maintain productive relationships with community partners, agencies, residents, families, and other stakeholders
Complete required program and funder reporting
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a strong, credible leader who has experience managing teams and working within supportive housing, residential behavioral health, homeless services, or a closely related environment.
You may be a current or former Program Director, Assistant Program Director, Residential Services Director, Program Manager, Senior Case Manager/Supervisor, or comparable behavioral health/housing leader ready to take ownership of a large program.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field required
Master's degree and/or professional licensure preferred, but not required
At least 5 years of relevant experience working with populations impacted by homelessness, severe mental illness, substance use, HIV/AIDS, or other complex behavioral health needs
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising staff
Prior supportive housing, residential behavioral health, or residential services experience strongly preferred
Experience managing complex resident situations, crises, and de-escalation
Strong understanding of case management and person-centered services
Experience with program compliance, documentation, audits, inspections, and/or government-funded programs
HASA and/or ESSHI experience is highly desirable
Strong judgment, communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, families, community members, and external partners
Comfortable stepping into an established team and providing immediate leadership and stability
Why Consider This Opportunity
This is more than traditional temporary coverage. You will have the opportunity to take leadership of a large, established NYC supportive housing program, work with an experienced team, and make an immediate impact serving individuals with complex behavioral health and housing needs.
The organization has a strong mission, promotes from within, and continues to expand its housing programs. While this is initially a five-month contract assignment, future opportunities may become available based on organizational needs and performance.
If you are an experienced supportive housing or residential behavioral health leader who can step in quickly, build trust with an established team, and confidently manage a complex program, we would like to speak with you.
