Job description
PositionPurpose:
TheProjectEngineersupportstheProjectManagerincoordinatingthetechnical,administrative,andfield-relatedrequirementsofABI’sconcreteandpublicinfrastructureprojects.Thispositionassistswithprojectdocumentation,materialprocurement,subcontractorcoordination,scheduling,costtracking,changemanagement,andcloseoutactivitiestohelpensureprojectsarecompletedsafely,onschedule,withinbudget,andinaccordancewithcontractrequirements.
TheProjectEngineerservesasanimportantlinkbetweenthefieldandofficeandhelpsmaintaineffectiverelationshipswithclients,generalcontractors,subcontractors,suppliers,engineers,inspectors,publicagencies,andotherprojectstakeholders.
Responsibilities:
ProjectCoordinationandCommunication
SupporttheProjectManagerwiththeday-to-daycoordinationandadministrationofassignedprojects.
Serveasapointofcontactforclients,generalcontractors,subcontractors,suppliers,engineers,inspectors,andotherprojectstakeholdersregardingadministrativeandtechnicalprojectmatters.
Assistwithrequestsforinformation,submittals,scopeclarifications,schedulingquestions,fieldcoordination,andotherprojectcorrespondence.
MaintainclearandtimelycommunicationbetweentheProjectManager,fieldsupervision,projectownerorgeneralcontractor,andinternalsupportfunctions.
Attendprojectmeetings,documentactionitems,andfollowthroughonassignedresponsibilities.CoordinatewiththeclientorgeneralcontractortoconfirmthatupcomingworkareasareavailableandreadyforABI’screws.
Plans,Specifications,andDocumentControl
Reviewandunderstandprojectplans,specifications,addenda,geotechnicalreports,contracts,schedules,andotherprojectdocumentation.
Maintaincurrentplans,specifications,sketches,RFIs,submittals,andotherprojectdocumentssothatfieldandofficepersonnelareworkingfromthemostcurrentinformation.
Communicateplanrevisions,scopechanges,andupdateprojectrequirementstotheProjectManagerandfieldsupervision.
Prepareplantakeoffs,quantitycalculations,andsupportdocumentationformaterialprocurement,productionplanning,andchangemanagement.
Assistinmaintainingaccuratefieldrecords,schedules,as-builtinformation,photographs,andotherdocumentationrequiredtosupportprojectexecutionandcloseout.
SubmittalsandRFIs
Prepare,submit,distribute,andtrackRFIs,productdata,mixdesigns,shopdrawings,samples,andotherrequiredsubmittalsthroughfinalapproval.
Reviewsubmittalsandshopdrawingsforgeneralconformancewithcontractdocumentsbeforeforwardingthemforapproval.
MonitoroutstandingRFIsandsubmittalsandfollowupasnecessarytopreventprojectdelays.
DistributeapprovedsubmittalsandrelatedinformationtotheProjectManager,fieldsupervision,suppliers,andotherappropriateparties.
Materials,Purchasing,andSubcontractorCoordination
Assistwithpurchasingandreleasingmaterialsforproductionanddeliveryinaccordancewithprojectplans,specifications,schedules,andcontractrequirements.
Obtainandevaluatematerialandsubcontractorquotations,preparebidorpurchasecomparisoninformation,andmakerecommendationstotheProjectManager.
Compilesubcontractorbidpackagesandassistwiththepreparationandadministrationofsubcontractsandpurchaseorders.
Orderandtrackmaterialstohelpensuredeliveriessupporttheprojectscheduleandfieldproductionrequirements.
Coordinatewithsuppliersregardingapprovedmaterials,fabricationschedules,deliveryrequirements,andrequireddocumentation.
FieldCoordinationandProjectControls
Maintainaregularpresenceinthefieldtounderstandprojectconditions,observeprogress,andsupportcoordinationbetweenfieldandofficepersonnel.
Trackcrewactivities,quantitiesinstalled,productionprogress,materialusage,andfieldconditionstosupportaccurateschedules,costreporting,andas-builtdocumentation.
CollaboratewiththeProjectManagerandfieldsupervisiononshort-termplanningandoverallprojectschedules.
Helpidentifypotentialschedulingconflicts,scopegaps,materialdelays,andotherissuesthatcouldaffectsafety,production,quality,cost,orprojectcompletion.
ElevateprojectrisksandconcernspromptlytotheProjectManagerandassistwithdevelopingandimplementingsolutions.
Supportquality-controlactivitiesandhelpverifythatcompletedworkconformstocontractdocuments,approvedsubmittals,andapplicablestandards.
Coordinateutilitymark-outs,permits,inspections,testing,andrequirednotificationsasapplicabletotheproject.
CostManagementandChangeOrders
AssisttheProjectManagerwithcostcoding,productiontracking,quantityreporting,committedcosts,budgetupdates,forecasts,andpreparationformonthlyprojectreviews.
Prepareandtrackchange-orderdocumentation,includingquantities,labor,equipment,materials,subcontractorcosts,supportingrecords,andpricinginformation.
Maintainorganizedrecordsofpending,submitted,approved,andrejectedchangeorders.
Developthebusinessacumennecessarytounderstandprojectbilling,costmanagement,productivity,profitability,andgross-marginperformance.
Assistwithcompilingdocumentationneededforprogressbillings,paymentapplications,andresolutionofpayment-relatedquestions.
ProjectCloseout
Coordinateandmaintainprojectcloseoutdocumentation,includingas-builtplans,warranties,guarantees,certifications,testingreports,operationandmaintenanceinformation,punch-listrecords,andothercontractuallyrequireddocuments.
Trackpunch-listworkandassisttheProjectManagerandfieldsupervisioninachievingtimelycompletionandacceptance.
Confirmthatrequiredprojectdocumentationhasbeensubmitted,approved,andproperlyretainedbeforefinalcloseout.

Knowledge,Skills,andCompetencies:
Bachelor’sdegreeinCivilEngineering,ConstructionManagement,orarelateddisciplinepreferred.Acomparablecombinationofeducationandrelevantconstructionexperiencemaybeconsidered.
Priorinternshiporworkexperienceinconcreteconstruction,heavycivilconstruction,publicworks,orinfrastructureconstructionispreferred.
Abilitytoreadandinterpretplans,specifications,contracts,geotechnicalreports,schedules,shopdrawings,andothertechnicaldocumentation.
Basicunderstandingofconstructionmethods,quantities,materials,scheduling,andcostmanagement.
Strongorganizationalandtime-managementskills,withtheabilitytomanagemultiplepriorities,deadlines,andprojectrequirements.

Certifications:
OSHA30-HourConstructioncertificationrequiredormustbeobtainedwithinacompany-establishedtimeframe.
FirstAid/CPR/AEDcertificationrequiredormustbeobtainedwithinacompany-establishedtimeframe.
Validdriver’slicense
AbilitytotraveltoABIprojectlocationsthroughoutNewJerseyandthesurroundingregion,asrequired.
WorkEnvironment:
Thispositionrequiresworkinbothanofficeenvironmentandactiveconstructionsites.TheProjectEngineermustbeabletonavigateuneventerrain,stairs,excavations,andothertypicaljobsiteconditions;wearrequiredpersonalprotectiveequipment;andworkoutdoorsinvaryingweatherconditions.Projectdemandsmayoccasionallyrequireearlymornings,evenings,orotherscheduleflexibility.
