APRN Inpatient Position
The APRN Inpatient provides a wide range of primary, acute and specialty healthcare services, both autonomously and in partnership with other healthcare professionals, in accordance with State and Federal regulations. These services include managing patient's overall care; prescribing medications and treatments; ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, EKGs and lab work; diagnosing and treating chronic and acute conditions, including injuries, infections, diabetes and high blood pressure; performing invasive procedures; counseling; and educating patients on positive health-promoting lifestyle choices and disease, injury and illness prevention. Incumbent in the job classification may perform unit specific duties based on the specialty.
Responsibilities include:
Using clinical judgments in conducting health assessments making differential diagnosis, and prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
Implementing plans through independent action, health counseling, and collaboration with other members of the health team.
Promoting optimum health, preventing illness and injury, and managing acute and chronic health problems in the on-site setting.
Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients clinical problems and health care needs.
Collaborating with other specialties to ensure interdisciplinary management and continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients.
Collaborating with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan as necessary.
Referring patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
Initiating search of nursing literature/suggesting changes/improvement in patient care standards.
Integrating current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care and technological advances into scope of practice.
Following and performing all related unit specific policies and procedures.
Utilizing job and unit specific equipment as required.
Psychiatric nurse practitioners can capacitate psychiatric patients in the hospital setting, they can also provide one of the professional opinions on the "2 Physician certification" form (B-32).
Demonstrating behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Experience generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Units at BHH require 1 year of experience. Two years prior direct related psych APRN experience strongly preferred.
Education: Master's degree in Nursing is required.
Credentials include:
Valid Florida Advanced Practice RN license required.
Valid APRN Board certification in specialty area (Psychiatric APRN) required.
American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.
Unit Specific Credential: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity
