Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Location: Oakland, California, United States

Meridian Counseling is a growing group practice focused on integrating mental health into everyday wellness on the Westside of Los Angeles. We are seeking an experienced, licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and patient education while offering flexible scheduling.

Job Overview

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will support the organization’s goals by delivering high‑quality psychiatric care that includes patient assessments, medication prescribing, lab result interpretation, and collaboration with the care team. The role offers flexibility in scheduling while maintaining consistent, client‑centered care.

Duties and Responsibilities

Client Care : Conduct psychiatric assessments, develop diagnoses, and create treatment plans aligned with client needs. Provide patient‑centered psychiatric care, including medication management and emotional support.

Clinical Documentation : Maintain up‑to‑date, accurate documentation of assessments, progress notes, prescriptions, and lab results using Meridian’s EHR system.

Supervision & Professional Development : Participate in optional consultations and professional development opportunities with the Meridian clinical team.

Team Collaboration : Coordinate care with therapists, staff, and leadership to ensure integrated treatment. Engage in timely, professional communication with patients and team members.

Flexible Scheduling : Manage a self‑directed weekly schedule that offers flexibility to both practitioner and clients. Position available full‑time or part‑time, as employee or contractor.

Administrative Support : Meridian Counseling handles all billing, credentialing, and client acquisition; practitioner focuses on patient care and documentation.

Qualifications

Education : Master’s degree in Nursing and certification by ANCC as PMHNP.

Licensure/Registration : Active, unrestricted California license; 103 NP classification required.

Certifications (Preferred) : Active DEA registration; Buprenorphine Waiver.

Experience : Minimum 3 years of experience in psychiatric medication management preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

Knowledge of psychiatric medications, their risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.

Ability to educate patients on treatment plans and medication usage.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Professional tone and demeanor in meetings, sessions, and documentation.

Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and telehealth platforms.

Commitment to patient‑centered care, collaboration, and professional growth.

Additional Requirements

Ability to work (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.

Must be able to lift objects up to 20 pounds.

May require occasional schedule flexibility based on client or team needs.

Working Conditions

Part‑time and full‑time positions available.

Remote, hybrid, or on‑site roles.

Compensation

$85 – $120 per hour (remote, Los Angeles, California).
