Position Overview She Recruits is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to provide comprehensive psychiatric services for the Hampton VA Healthcare System . This is an outstanding opportunity to care for our nation's Veterans while practicing in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that includes inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and consultative psychiatry.
The VA is seeking four full-time Psychiatrists to join its Mental Health Service, with opportunities to practice across multiple clinical settings while working alongside psychologists, social workers, nurses, residents, and advanced practice providers. Physicians will primarily be based at the Hampton VA Medical Center, with occasional coverage opportunities at the Virginia Beach Community Based Outpatient Clinic as needed.

Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders
Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care
Perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning
Conduct suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention
Provide psychiatric consultation within emergency and inpatient settings
Complete admissions, discharge planning, and follow-up care
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning with Mental Health staff
Supervise and mentor residents, interns, medical students, and Advanced Practice Providers as appropriate
Provide psychiatric expertise for peer reviews, quality initiatives, and case consultations
Maintain timely and accurate documentation using the VA electronic health record (CPRS/EHR)
Ensure compliance with VA clinical standards, documentation requirements, and patient safety initiatives
Schedule & Coverage Weekday Schedule:Monday Friday
8:00 AM 4:30 PM
Weekend and Federal Holiday inpatient coverage shared among the physician team
Evening telephone consultation responsibilities during assigned weekend/holiday rotations
Ability to return to the facility within one hour when on call-back status, if required
Qualifications Required Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (ABPN)
Current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
Active DEA registration
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing and privileging
English language proficiency
Preferred Experience in inpatient psychiatry
Experience providing outpatient psychiatric care
Emergency psychiatry and crisis intervention experience
Experience supervising residents, fellows, or Advanced Practice Providers
Familiarity with electronic medical records
Clinical Practice Psychiatrists will provide care across multiple clinical settings, including:
Outpatient Psychiatry Clinics
Inpatient Psychiatry Units
Emergency Department Psychiatric Consultation
Weekend/Holiday Inpatient Coverage
Telephonic Clinical Consultation (during assigned rotations)
The practice includes medication management, psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, crisis stabilization, suicide risk assessment, and collaborative care with interdisciplinary treatment teams. Physicians typically see patients daily during weekday clinics , with inpatient weekend coverage as assigned.
