PT Payroll SpecialistSouthwest Virginia Community College seeks a PT Payroll Specialist. Do you enjoy being accurate and timely? Do you enjoy basic accounting? Thorough training through the state and by the Payroll Coordinator will help ensure success in this position. This position will partner with the Payroll Coordinator on the following responsibilities: compiling and inputting all necessary data from source documents and updating employee records for processing biweekly, adjunct faculty, college work student and full-time payrolls. Reconciling payroll and fringe benefit reporting, preparing part-time wage reports and 1500 hour report, performing quarterly payroll reconciliation, ensuring compliance with federal and state payroll regulations and institutional policies, supporting internal/external audits and providing required documentation, maintaining compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and wage/hour laws, assisting with year-end processes, and other duties as assigned.About the College: Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.Special Assignments - May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.KSA's/Required Qualifications - Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel records. Ability to analyze discrepancies and interpret payroll data. Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to consistently meet payroll deadlines and manage competing priorities. Ability to grasp and utilize a highly technical and automated payroll system. Strong problem solving skills. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to work with people and communicate effectively with others in giving and obtaining information. Ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven work. High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.Additional Considerations - Payroll experience in a higher education setting. Payroll experience in a state employment setting. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices. Coursework or training in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, finance, or related fields. Knowledge of State and Federal tax laws as it relates to payroll. Experience with ERP/payroll systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar)
