Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Quality Control / Mechanical Inspector to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for inspecting incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, workmanship standards, and established quality procedures.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in a manufacturing quality environment, strong mechanical inspection skills, and the ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements. This role requires someone who is organized, analytical, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, daytime hours.
Key Responsibilities
Perform incoming inspection of raw materials, customer-supplied materials, components, and returned products.
Conduct first-piece/start-up, in-process, and final inspections to verify product conformity.
Inspect finished products using established inspection procedures, drawings, specifications, and job documentation.
Perform dimensional and mechanical inspections using precision measuring equipment, including:
Micrometers
Vernier/digital calipers
Height gauges
Dial indicators
Ring and plug gauges
Optical comparators/CMM a plus
Electronic balances and other testing equipment
Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, manufacturing procedures, schematics, wire lists, and GD&T requirements.
Identify defects, dimensional variations, workmanship issues, and other non conformances.
Record inspection measurements and test results accurately and maintain complete quality documentation.
Perform statistical process control (SPC) activities and record data when required.
Communicate nonconforming product, out-of-control processes, failed tests, and other quality concerns to appropriate Quality and Manufacturing personnel.
Work with Engineering and Manufacturing to investigate quality issues and support corrective actions and process improvements.
Assist Engineering with experimental, validation, and other testing activities as needed.
Support calibration activities for inspection and measurement equipment and coordinate with external calibration laboratories.
Enter inspection and quality data into applicable manufacturing or quality management systems.
Perform basic computer-related tasks associated with production and inspection activities.
Maintain inspection records in accordance with established quality procedures and applicable standards.
Follow company quality systems, procedures, and ISO 9001 requirements.
Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
3+ years of hands-on quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment; 5+ years preferred.
Strong experience using precision mechanical inspection and measurement equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) .
Strong understanding of dimensional inspection, part workmanship, tolerances, and product specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including the ability to accurately collect, interpret, and document inspection data.
Experience with quality documentation and good documentation practices.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and manufacturing quality processes.
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Excel or similar software.
Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with optical measurement or vision inspection systems.
Experience with Keyence or similar automated dimensional measurement systems.
Experience with SPC and process monitoring.
Experience supporting calibration programs and maintaining measurement equipment.
Experience working with electromechanical, metal fabrication, stamping, machining, cable/wire assembly, or similar manufactured products.
Familiarity with military, industry, or customer-specific manufacturing specifications and standards.
