Quality Engineer – Battery Manufacturing
Northern California
We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join an advanced manufacturing organisation working within lithium-ion battery technology.
This is a hands-on quality engineering position offering broad exposure across manufacturing quality, incoming materials, supplier quality, inspection, measurement systems, nonconformance management and continuous improvement.
You’ll work closely with engineers, technicians, operators and suppliers, helping identify quality issues, investigate root causes and strengthen the controls used throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
Support incoming inspection of materials, components and supplier documentation.
Provide in-process quality support across battery manufacturing operations.
Investigate defects, nonconforming material and process-related quality issues.
Support root-cause analysis, containment and corrective-action activities.
Use statistical methods to review quality and manufacturing performance.
Support SPC, process capability and measurement-system studies.
Assist with Gauge R&R, sampling plans and inspection-method development.
Contribute to PFMEA, control-plan and process-improvement activities.
Support quality audits and manufacturing problem solving.
Maintain accurate quality records, inspection results and traceability.
Work with manufacturing, engineering and supplier teams to improve quality performance. J
What We're Looking For
Around 2 years of relevant quality engineering experience within manufacturing, batteries, materials, electronics, automotive, aerospace or another technical or regulated environment.
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or another relevant technical discipline.
Good working knowledge of incoming quality, in-process inspection, measurement, sampling, nonconformance control, corrective action and continuous improvement.
Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, control plans and technical documentation.
Practical understanding of core quality tools including SPC, process capability, MSA, Gauge R&R, PFMEA, root-cause analysis and sampling methods.
Confidence collecting, analysing and communicating technical data using Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools.
Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and a disciplined approach to quality documentation.
Comfortable working independently once trained while collaborating closely with engineers, technicians, operators, inspectors, suppliers and cross-functional teams. JD-XXXX - Quality Engineer I
Experience with lithium-ion batteries, electrochemistry, materials, manufacturing processes, metrology or reliability would be particularly valuable, as would exposure to tools such as Minitab, JMP, Python, MATLAB or Power BI. Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, 8D, CAPA, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma would also be advantageous.
This is a strong opportunity for a Quality Engineer looking to build deeper experience within an advanced battery manufacturing environment and work closely with both engineering and manufacturing teams.
