Quality InspectorCompany: Specialty Minerals Inc., a Minerals Technologies company, is the largest supplier and global leader in providing Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) and Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) specially designed for customers' application needs.Location: On-site in Adams, MA.Pay Rate: $28.91/hr - $35.11/hrWhat We Offer:Competitive pay, commensurate with experienceHealth/Dental/Vision plans401k company matchLife InsuranceShort Term Disability & Long-Term DisabilityEducational AssistanceEmployee Assistance PlanResponsibilitiesUnder routine supervision, the Quality Assurance Inspector collects and prepares samples for distribution to prospective customers and customers. Also, sampling, testing, labeling and disposition for critical raw materials and return product to ensure established quality standards are maintained.Incumbent should possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a general understanding of chemistry.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesCustomer Validation Production SamplesGather product samples for customer validations. (replace them every two years on a program)Prepare manual COAs for these samples.Prepare and send the samples as requested.Incoming Raw MaterialReceive and validate COAs for all raw materials.Inspect condition of incoming materials.Input information into "Incoming Raw Material Log" - ADD material critical characteristicsReview critical raw material characteristic trends and advise for any action (either excel charts or in SPC-IV)Put on hold any non-conforming raw material.Gather the necessary samples indicated by the SOP. Perform internal tests as necessary.Prepare samples for any required outside testing.Microbial MonitoringGather 3 water samples per week from GCC and PCC UV Systems.Perform the necessary bacteria testing.Report and follow up on any anormal condition on the UV systems or micro results.Gather biannual samples for outside micro testing.Gather biannual water samples for outside micro testing.Laboratory Sample ShippingPrepare and send samples/equipment to outside laboratories/suppliers/customers.Special QA Activities/SamplingEnsure material OOS is put on hold.Keep track of product on hold until dispositioned.Gather samples of customer returned product.Help gather evidence in Customer Concerns or Quality Alerts investigations.Stability ChamberWeekly replace the paper chart and monitor compliance of temperature and relative humidityMaintain the equipment with enough water.Report any problem observed.Laboratory MaterialKeep track of Chemicals/Standards/Consumables needed in the Laboratory.Advice if levels get below restocking points for purchase.Keep control and order of retained material.Keep control and order of laboratory books.Process Plant InspectionsPerform biannual inspection checks to magnets strength and equipment conditions.Perform quarterly checks to metal detectors.Review and train production operators to do proper magnet sampling and metal detector verification.QualificationsThe requirements listed in the sections that follow are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform the duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions (primary duties) of the job.High School Diploma or equivalent required with a general understanding of chemistry.Ability to lift materials weighing up to and including 50 pounds.Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, twist, lift, climb, push and pull during a work shift.Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary.On a frequent basis, there may be exposure to plant areas, which include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. This includes walking up flights of stairs in the production areas.The employee is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting. Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, have a high level of integrity, dependability and self control to maintain composure, perform multiple tasks at once, learn and memorize procedures, manage time effectively and efficiently, meet established deadlines, display a cooperative attitude, read, understand and follow all ISO, company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.Safety Equipment: Safety equipment required while performing the duties of this job includes an ANSI approved hardhat and safety glasses, safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection.Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual which consists of a total of 24 hours of training.Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.
