Job description

InspectorInspect, test, sort, sample, or weigh non-aerostat raw materials or processed, machined, fabricated, or assembled parts or products for defects, wear, and deviations from specifications; evaluates documentation, performs laboratory procedures, measures process performance, records data and prepares reports. May use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment. Level B is an inspector competent to perform all areas of practice with modest supervision and support – a Level B inspector can handle back shift, off-day or remote site shift semi-independently where immediate access to higher quality assurance authority is unavailable.Working Procedure:Documenting/Recording Information — Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.Attach or mark identification onto products or containersRecord test results, test procedures, or inspection dataDetect and correct (or report) errors or omissions in inspection/test data or recordsUsing a calculator or computer for assistance, correctly perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; determine averages, percents, minimums and maximums; assess conditions of less-than, greater-than and equal-to; understand decimal places/precisionGetting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.Read blueprintsRead and understand procedures and work instructionsRead specificationsRead technical drawingsRead work order, instructions, formulas, or processing chartsInspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material — Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.Conduct performance testingExamine products or work to verify conformance to specificationsInspect manufactured products or materialsAssess consistency of production qualityMonitoring Processes, Materials, or Surroundings — Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.Maintain safe work environmentMonitor production machinery/equipment operation to detect problemsMonitor work to enforce standardsCommunicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events — Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.Distinguish colors of lights and objectsAppreciate attributes of paint and coatingsGrade, classify, or sort products according to specificationsRecognize characteristics of solid raw materials (alloys/metals, plastics, wood)Sort manufacturing materials or productsUnderstand engineering data or reportsUnderstand measuring and monitoring devicesUnderstand technical operating, service or repair manualsAdditional job duties include the following:Successfully complete training for and work to technical standards required by the work including AWS or IPCRecognize and avoid energy storage device and other hazards associated with electro-mechanical work and stop/report if unsafeObtain Purchase Order (and any data package) or Manufacturing Order of items to inspectObtain correct revisions and complete copies of drawings and specifications governing items to be inspectedDetermine the required amount and extent of inspection/test required from sampling plans and proceduresInspect items and record results as conformance or non-conformanceRed-tag and segregate non-conforming items until released by proper authorityReport inspection results to stakeholders and supervisionStop work and notify supervisors when non-conforming processes are detected or defective items are being producedDetermine the completeness of assemblies and kitsEducation Requirement: High School diploma or equivalent. Trade/vocational school certificate or completion of some technical college-level classes desired.Experience Requirement: Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a related industry. Military experience comparable to industry experience is considered equivalent.
