Job description

Quality Engineer/ TechnicianThe Quality Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that precision sheet metal parts consistently meet strict specifications and industry standards. This position combines hands-on inspection of fabricated, welded, painted, and plated components with accurate documentation and occasional travel as a service technician to support and improve customers inspection processes. You will work in a modern, climate-controlled job shop with advanced equipment, performing detailed inspections and contributing directly to the company’s reputation for accuracy and quality.ResponsibilitiesPerform first article, in-process, and final inspections on sheet metal fabricated and painted parts to verify they meet all specifications and quality standards.Inspect sheet metal parts using a variety of precision tools, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and surface plates, for fabricated, welded, or plated metals.Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to execute accurate quality checks on machined and fabricated parts.Maintain thorough and accurate documentation for prototype and medium-run parts, ensuring all inspection records are complete and organized.Create and manage PPAP documentation to support production part approval processes.Apply knowledge of AS9100 and related standards to inspect tight tolerance parts and ensure compliance with industry requirements.Serve as a traveling service technician, visiting customer sites over the road to calibrate equipment and improve inspection processes.Use computer systems, including Excel and data entry tools, to record inspection results, track quality metrics, and support reporting.Conduct visual inspections and use GD&T principles to assess part conformity and identify deviations.Collaborate with production and engineering teams to communicate inspection findings and support continuous improvement in quality control.Essential SkillsHands-on experience performing first article, in-process, and final inspections in a manufacturing or sheet metal environment.Proficiency using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and surface plates.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for machined and fabricated parts.Strong understanding of GD&T symbols and their application in part inspection.Knowledge of AS9100 and related quality standards for tight tolerance components.Experience with PPAP documentation and production part approval processes.Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and accurate data entry.Valid motor vehicle record (MVR) suitable for traveling to customer sites as a service technician.Demonstrated experience in quality inspection, quality assurance, and quality control within a manufacturing setting.Ability to perform detailed visual inspections and document results clearly and accurately.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in a sheet metal fabrication or precision job shop environment.Familiarity with vision systems or CMM equipment, such as Virtex scanners and similar inspection technologies.Comfort working with custom projects and varied products, adapting inspection methods to different part types.Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight tolerances.Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and customer teams.Organizational skills to manage multiple inspections, documentation requirements, and deadlines.Why Work Here?Employees enjoy a modern precision job shop environment with a strong focus on safety, quality, and long-term stability. The environment emphasizes shop safety, organized workflows, and comfortable working conditions, allowing you to focus on high-quality inspection work in a professional setting.Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of White Bear Lake, MN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80,000.00 - $95,000.00/yr.
