Job description

Quality TechnicianThe Quality Technician will work closely with Quality Engineering teams in daily execution of the test track processes, identifying rooms for improvement, performing outgoing inspections, reporting findings, working with test track drivers and/or Auto Pilot operations and logistics team to ensure smooth and safe operations. They will support issue investigations, root cause analysis, providing reports, charts, graphs and anything else needed to define, measure, analyze, improve and control product and process quality. The successful candidate must have mechanical aptitude, the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented and be able to both take direction and work independently.ResponsibilitiesEnsure smooth operation of the test track and fine tune processes, then monitor, teach, coach, and train the operational and other cross functional teams involved with the test trackMonitor operations with safety and productivity in mind and facilitate driving root cause investigations for product or process issues found, along with corrective-actions implementation, and follow up with cross functional teams until closurePerform various drive tests including but not limited to BSR, NVH evaluation, high speed drives, reliability test drives and support vehicle data collection for issue discovery and resolutionMonitor track process, track safety and operations to identify issues quickly, investigate potential improvements then implement and sustain corrective and preventative actions and countermeasuresWork closely with quality engineering, manufacturing, and process Engineering to establish and sustain robust processes and procedures, which ensure consistent high qualityAudit outgoing or incoming products, support in repair activities, continuous improvement and troubleshooting within Tesla factories, service centers, and/or its suppliersMaintain and update Quality documentation as needed, write high-quality work instructions, measure and coordinate measurement of data, anticipate potential problems and take preventative actionRequirements1 or more years of experience in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Process focused roleStrong mechanical and electrical aptitude, trouble-shooting skills, and ability to attentively monitor an area for safety of operationsMechanical inspection experience using basic and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, multimeters, etc.)Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and electrical drawingsUnderstanding of, or experience, in fundamentals of GD&T, lean manufacturing principles, work instruction development, and quality problem solving methodologies highly desiredAbility to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ability to lift and sort parts of up to 30 pounds as neededAbility to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Essential Physical DemandsAbility to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a dayAbility to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrainFrequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairsFrequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install partsStoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a dayClimb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structuresAbility to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearingWearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelinesCompensation & BenefitsBenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deductionFamily-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefitsDental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contributionCompany Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSAHealthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefitsCompany paid Basic Life, AD&DShort-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period)Employee Assistance ProgramSick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid HolidaysBack-up childcare and parenting support resourcesVoluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insuranceWeight Loss and Tobacco Cessation ProgramsTesla Babies programCommuter benefitsEmployee discounts and perks program
