Job description

Quality TechnicianA growing manufacturer of custom-engineered materials is seeking multiple Quality Technicians to provide hands-on quality support within its Grand Rapids manufacturing operation.These positions play an important role in ensuring manufactured products meet customer specifications and quality requirements before and during production. Opportunities include both finished-product quality control and release responsibilities as well as production-floor quality assurance positions working directly alongside extrusion and manufacturing teams.The ideal candidate has approximately two years of manufacturing quality, inspection, or related experience and is comfortable using measurement tools, documenting results, working with computer-based quality systems, and making objective quality decisions. Specific film-testing experience is not required; candidates can be trained on the organization's products and testing methods.What You'll DoInspect and audit manufactured film and related materials to verify conformance with specifications and quality requirementsPerform dimensional inspections, physical-property testing, recurring in-process testing, and quality-documentation reviewsConduct first-article inspections and identify deviations early in the manufacturing processUse tape measures, gauges, measurement equipment, and basic math to accurately evaluate productsDocument inspection and testing results in quality and ERP systemsCommunicate quality concerns directly to production and operations personnelWork independently and make objective decisions when products or processes do not meet requirementsEscalate investigations and more complex root-cause issues to quality or engineering resources when appropriatePartner closely with production teams to maintain quality standards throughout active manufacturing runsSupport product holds, disposition activities, documentation, and product-release processes as assignedDepending on assignment, technicians may focus primarily on product release and quality control, reviewing finished healthcare and food-and-beverage films before shipment, or may be embedded directly with production teams to provide real-time quality assurance throughout extrusion runs.What You BringHigh school diploma or GEDApproximately 2 years of quality-control, inspection, or related manufacturing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExperience inspecting manufactured products and identifying deviations from specificationsAbility to accurately use tape measures, gauges, and other basic measurement toolsSolid basic math and mechanical-reasoning skillsStrong attention to detail and follow-throughAbility to document inspection and testing results accuratelyComfortable working with PCs and programs such as Microsoft Excel and WordAbility to learn and work within ERP and quality-documentation systemsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a manufacturing teamConfidence making objective quality decisions even when those decisions may require difficult conversations with production personnelPreferred QualificationsAssociate degree in Applied Science or a related technical fieldPrevious manufacturing quality-control or quality-assurance experienceExperience within flexible packaging, plastics, extrusion, film, converting, or another process-manufacturing environmentHealthcare, food-contact, or other regulated-manufacturing experienceExperience performing dimensional inspections, first-article inspections, or physical-property testingPrevious responsibility for auditing production, documenting nonconformances, or making independent product-quality decisionsFamiliarity with ERP or electronic quality systemsStrong manufacturing experience involving inspection responsibilities may be considered even when the candidate's previous title was Machine Operator or Production OperatorWhy This OpportunityMultiple openings provide opportunities across both traditional weekday quality control and production-floor quality assuranceGain hands-on experience supporting quality within a process-driven manufacturing operationWork directly with production, extrusion, engineering, operations, and quality teamsDevelop experience with product inspection, testing, quality documentation, and regulated manufacturing processesOpportunity to learn specialized film-testing methods; previous film experience is not requiredNight-shift opportunities include a $3.50-per-hour differentialRotating production schedules provide every other weekend off while including built-in overtime during 48-hour weeksBecome part of a quality organization focused on strengthening product-release controls and increasing consistent quality coverage directly on the manufacturing floor.
