Job description
Responsible for performing treatments on patients with radiation therapy as prescribed by Radiation Oncologist according to established practices and standards. Work closely with patients and provide support to them throughout the treatment process by determining their needs, answering questions, and providing the best medical care possible.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Checks prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
2. Liaises with physicist and supportive care personnel.
3. Prepares equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices, and positions patient according to prescription.
4. Enters data into computer and sets controls to operate and adjust equipment and regulate dosage.
5. Observes and reassures patient during treatment and reports unusual reactions to physician.
6. Performs a timeout procedure prior to delivering the prescribed dose of radiation to the patient.
7. Maintains records, reports, and files as required.
8. Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
9. Will also perform patient simulations.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
