We provide hands-on training and mentorship to help you build the skills needed to succeed in this specialized field.If you are motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn from some of the region's leading eye care professionals, this is a great opportunity to begin or grow your career in ophthalmology.Essential Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrate advanced comprehension of ophthalmic assistant skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)Possess a basic understanding of optics and the ability to perform refractometryDemonstrate knowledge of the principles of optics, refraction, and contact lensesMaintain strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing diagnostic testingDemonstrate strong computer literacy and comfort working with EMR systemsWhat You'll DoAs a Refractive Technician, you will play an important role in supporting physicians and ensuring a smooth patient experience.Responsibilities include:Gathering patient medical historiesPerforming patient work-ups and pre-testingMeasuring visual acuity and performing pupil assessmentsConducting diagnostic testing such as applanation tonometry, OCT, corneal topography, and keratometryPerforming manual refractions and assisting with contact lens evaluationsAccurately scribing for physicians during patient examsSupporting physicians and clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flowQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredStrong computer and data entry skillsOne year of medical or ophthalmic office experience preferredCOA or COT certification preferred, but not required for otherwise qualified candidatesExcellent communication skills and a patient-first mindsetBenefitsWe value work-life balance and want our employees to thrive both personally and professionally.
