Job description

Supports families, school staff and community partners in their efforts to assist students in achieving educational excellence and bridge the gap between home, school and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Meet with parents and student to determine needs that are causing barriers to student learning.

Establish and maintain communication with parents regarding student academic, social/emotional and behavioral progress.

Case management services to support and optimize student success in the educational setting.

Collaborate with multiple individuals and agencies on services for families and students.

Support school staff in the Refugee Newcomer Program.

Assume other duties and perform other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Certification in Case Management.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Flexibility, decision-making and problem solving skills.

Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.

Ability to effectively communicate.

Ability to speak Spanish

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in education, health, social work, psychology, counseling, or related field; OR

Associates degree and nine (9) years of experience; OR

High school diploma/GED and thirteen (13) years of experience.

Experience in monitoring, planning, and/or advocacy.

Ability to speak Swahili, Farsi, Arabic, Dari, Kinyarwanda, or another language spoken by APS refugee students
