Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function IIChico Ampla Health Family Medical and Dental - Chico, CA 95926OverviewSalary Range $35.53 - $49.04 Hourly Position Type Full TimeDescriptionPosition: Registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions IIDepartment: Dental SupportReports to: Chief Dental OfficerFLSA Status: Non-Exempt PositionGrade: 10General Purpose:Under general supervision of the Chief Dental Officer (CDO), The Registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions II will function as a circulating assistant in chairside dental procedures. The RDAEFII will perform all duties of Dental Assistant/Registered Dental Assistant and other functions legally allowed in the State of California.Main Responsibilities & Duties:All duties performed as Dental Assistant (See Dental Assistant job description) and as Registered Dental AssistantAbility to perform all phases of four (4) handed Dental Assisting duties for endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics and restorative procedures.Takes impressions for cast restorations (crowns, bridges)Taking final impressions for permanent indirect restorationsTakes impressions for space maintainers, orthodontic appliance, and occlusal guardsPrepares enamel by etching for bondingFormulates indirect patterns for endodontic post core castingsFit trial endodontic filling pointsApplies pit and fissure sealantPlace, contour, finish, and adjust all direct restorations.Adjust and adhere all permanent indirect restorationsPlace interim therapeutic restorations (ITRs) to stabilize the tooth until a licensed dentist diagnoses the need for further definitive treatment or after the supervising dentist confirms a diagnosis and provides instruction to perform the procedure in a dental office setting, under the direct or general supervision of a dentist or after the supervising dentist confirms a diagnosis and provides instruction to perform the procedure in public health settings, using telehealth for the purpose of communication with the supervising dentist, including, but not limited to, schools, Head Start and preschool programs, and community clinics, under the general supervision of a dentist.Perform post, core, and build-up procedures in conjunction with direct and indirect restorations.Take final impressions for tooth-borne removable prosthesis.Remove excess cement from subgingival tooth surfaces with a hand instrumentPerform oral health assessments, including intraoral and extraoral soft tissue evaluations to identify oral lesions, classifying occlusion, performing myofunctional evaluations, and oral cancer screenings as authorized by the supervising dentist.Perform oral health assessments in school-based, community health project settings under the direction of a dentist, registered dental hygienist, or registered dental hygienist in alternative practice.Effectively pour models and conduct other lab procedures.Determine which radiographs to perform on a patient who has not received an initial examination by the supervising dentist for the specific purpose of the dentist making a diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient. The RDAEF shall follow protocols established by the supervising dentist.Ability to instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under the supervision of the dentist.Perform charting activities and document exam findings in patient record.Ability to plan work duties to ensure dental clinic efficiency. Knowledge of patient scheduling procedures and excellent time management to ensure dental clinic efficiency.Employee Safety: Safely performs all duties; follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well as the safety of others.Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.Safety: Responsible for ensuring that all duties, responsibilities and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including themselves.Safety: Take appropriate corrective actions to address matters pertaining to employee health and safety that have been brought to their attention.Work in conjunction with the Dental Director/Staff Dentists/Manager of Dental Clinic Services to develop and implement patient plans to meet production goals.Proficiency in dental imaging techniques relevant to general dentistry. Must be reliable and punctual.Professional Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMust have high school diploma or equivalentMust be licensed RDAEFII in the State of California.Five years of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant/RDAEFII.Must have a current BLS CertificationMust have a Radiation Safety Certification or completion of an approved radiation safety course.Must have a valid California Dental X-ray license, coronal polishing and be Sealant Certified.Must have a valid California driver's license and proof of personal automobile insurance as required by California state law.Must possess the skills necessary to perform duties for State of California licensing guidelines.Must be familiar with dental terminology, materials, medications and instruments used during dental procedures.Communications SkillsMust have neat and legible handwritingMust be able to interact with patients courteously and calmlyAbility to communicate well with the publicWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsWorks well with patients, co-worker, and vendors in a generally comfortable environment office.Employee must possess the following physical requirements:Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels)Must have adequate vision to read memos, charts, and other clinic documentsMust have high manual dexterityMust be able to hear adequatelyMust be able to reach above shoulder level to work. Must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting, turningMay be exposed to contagious/infectious diseases
