Registered Nurse - Dialysis Full Time Day

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides nursing care to renal dialysis patients. Designs nursing care plans and assists in the development of the overall care plan for patients. Works closely with other members of the care team to ensure that appropriate overall care is administered in a manner conducive to effective maintenance of patient conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance/performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Assesses and coordinates overall patient care in relation to the dialysis treatment, dietary restrictions, and psychosocial and physical needs of the individual.

Observes and reports symptoms and conditions of the dialysis patient to the charge nurse and/or the physician.

Provides dialysis treatment in conformance with nursing standards to include initiation, monitoring, and terminations of treatment.

Administers medications and blood in accordance with unit policy and procedures and physician orders.

Records and documents patient treatment, reactions, conditions, history, medications, and overall adaptability to dialysis.

Assists in patient and staff education in the care and treatment of dialysis patients and helps physicians evaluate the effectiveness of the dialysis regimen.

Dispose of all contaminated trash and linen in appropriate place.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. If any mechanical problems are noted, be able to troubleshoot and call chief technician for immediate assistance.

Maintains a safe environment.

Maintains CPR certification annually.

Attends meetings as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Will be required for on-call and cover the acute care unit at Southampton Hospital

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Current NYS Registered Nurse License

Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.

Minimum of one year experience working in a renal care setting.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors of Science in nursing degree preferred. ( Under New York State Education Law § 6905 (commonly referred to as the BSN in 10), all Registered Nurses licensed on or after June 18, 2020, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within 10 years of their initial RN licensure to maintain their ability to practice in the State of New York. Failure to meet this legal requirement may impact your employment status .)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes.

Handles emergency or crisis situations.

Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.

Able to relate to patients, hospital staff, and visitors.

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services*

Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen*

Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination
