About Our Emergency Department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital:

The Emergency Department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital is part of Mission Health and provides 24/7 comprehensive critical care to the communities of Mitchell, Yancey, and Avery counties. As a designated Critical Access Hospital featuring 25 patient beds, our facility serves as a vital clinical anchor for the region, delivering rapid medical evaluation, stabilizing interventions, and life-saving care for acute injuries and sudden illnesses.

Our emergency room offers full-scale diagnostic and treatment capabilities, utilizing an advanced on-site laboratory, multi-modality medical imaging, and dedicated critical care rooms. When severe medical crises require a higher tier of intervention, our department features direct, seamless access to the Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) helicopter system, ensuring 24/7 rapid critical air transport straight to Mission Hospital’s Level II Trauma Center in Asheville. Our clinical team works with urgent, synchronized precision to create a highly responsive care environment where patient stabilization, accurate diagnostics, and efficient coordination are paramount.

What Sets Us Apart:

The Emergency Department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital combines the specialized, high-stakes capabilities of an acute critical care facility with the supportive, tight-knit culture of a rural community hospital. What truly sets us apart is our agility and direct line to extensive regional resources. Because we manage a broad range of clinical presentations—from mountain recreation traumas to acute cardiac emergencies—our providers remain sharp, highly adaptable, and deeply collaborative. Working here means operating within a unified care network where emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, emergency nurses, and imaging technicians operate with real-time cohesion, allowing for immediate communication and meaningful professional connections that are often lost in massive, detached trauma hubs.
