The Cardiovascular Intervention Center is a core element of the Smidt Heart Institute, performing more than 8,000 procedures a year. The department serves the populations of neonates to and including geriatrics. In this twelve-laboratory facility, we perform a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart muscle function and heart valve dysfunction.
Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse III, you will assume responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. You will work in a fast‑paced environment (Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms). You will also be cross‑trained to circulate, monitor, scrub for invasive procedures for a population from neonate to geriatric. This role entails care of Cardiac patients from point of admission to discharge, including prolonged hours in a procedure setting with x‑ray exposure.
On‑call coverage for emergency procedures evenings, nights, weekends with an expected 30‑minute maximum response/arrival time.
Work three 12‑hour shifts (four out of 12 weeks will have a 4‑day week to make a 1.0 FTE).
On‑call for nights and weekends approximately nine (9) times during a six‑week period.
Employees living more than 30 minutes from the facility will stay in a local hotel while on‑call.

Schedule: Three 12‑hour shifts, with on‑call nights and weekends approximately nine times every six weeks.
Educational Requirements
BSN – Strongly preferred.
Licenses
Valid California RN License – Required.
BLS, ACSL – Required.
CCRN, CVRN, or RCIS – Preferred (Candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain CN III status).
Experience
Minimum 3 years of Acute Care Nursing experience – required.
Minimum 1 year of Critical Care experience – strongly recommended.
Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/EP experience preferred in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions with all patient populations for CN II or III qualification.
Minimum 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience – required for CN III qualification; otherwise considered CN II.
Meets clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse III (minimum 3‑5 years RN experience); Critical Care or Emergency Department strongly recommended.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, transport patients and equipment, gurneys, pull and transfer patients from bed to procedure table.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods wearing lead aprons weighing 15–20 lbs for prolonged periods.
Must be able to be on‑call for nights and weekends approximately 9 times during every six‑week period.
