Job description

Bring your neurology nursing expertise to a high-volume outpatient environment where clinical judgment, patient education, procedural support, and interdisciplinary collaboration come together every day.

nUVA Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for Adult Neurology Outpatient, a clinic-based role supporting patients with complex neurological symptoms and diseases, including stroke, movement disorders, memory concerns, neuromuscular conditions, epilepsy, headaches, multiple sclerosis, and neuroimmunological disorders. This is an opportunity to practice hands-on ambulatory nursing in a specialty setting that offers clinical variety, meaningful patient relationships, and a more predictable schedule than many inpatient roles.

nThe Role

nAs an Adult Neurology Outpatient RN, you will be part of a large, busy specialty clinic that sees approximately 150-200 patients per day across 29 exam rooms. This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys fast-paced outpatient care , complex patient needs, procedural variety, and being part of a team that adjusts quickly to meet the needs of the day.

nThis position offers schedule flexibility with either four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts , depending on clinic needs. There are no weekends, no holidays, no nights, and no on-call requirements . Once fully trained, there may be potential for occasional remote work.

nYou will support specialty neurology care through direct patient interaction, procedure assistance, nurse-driven visits, care coordination, and patient education. The team is also focused on improving procedure workflows and expanding opportunities for RN-led care, including hands-on treatments for patients with neurological and neuropathic conditions.

nIn an average day, you may:

nnnSupport procedures such as lumbar punctures, skin biopsies, and botox injections

n

nnConduct nurse visits for treatments including subcutaneous infusions for multiple sclerosis and diabetic neuropathy treatment applications

n

nnAssist with Parkinson’s disease pump adjustments

n

nnProvide Epic in-basket support for RN Care Coordinators, including medication refills, faxes, and forms

n

nnLiaise with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing colleagues, and other members of the interdisciplinary team

n

nnSupport patient education for individuals and families navigating complex neurological diagnoses

n

nnOccasionally assist with patient intake and clinic flow

n

n nThe person who thrives here is flexible, curious, team-oriented, and energized by learning. This is a strong fit for a nurse who likes to stay busy, jump in when needed, and build specialty expertise in a clinic setting without the physical intensity of inpatient nursing.

nWhy UVA Health

nAt UVA Health, ambulatory nurses are essential members of advanced interprofessional care teams, using their clinical knowledge, patient advocacy, and teaching skills to help patients manage complex and often life-changing conditions. In this Adult Neurology Outpatient role, you will contribute directly to specialty care that supports patients through diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, and long-term follow-up.

n

nnA supportive clinic team that works together, celebrates successes, and learns from challenges

n

n

nnA schedule designed for work-life balance, with day shift hours and no nights, weekends, holidays, or call

n

nnOpportunities to develop outpatient specialty expertise while remainingclosely connected to an interdisciplinary academic medicine environment

n

n nFor nurses interested in broader neurology learning, this environment also offers exposure to a leader connected to both adult and pediatric neurology operations.
