Nursing Position
Compensation
Budgeted maximum bill rate applies.
Resumes submitted with rates exceeding the budgeted maximum will be rejected.
Schedule and Hours
This is not a PRN position. The schedule will be provided on the first day.
Availability is required for any day with 13-hour shifts.
Flexibility with hours and days is necessary as schedules may change based on facility needs.
Shift Hours
First shift: 6:10 AM – 7:30 PM
Work Days
Monday, Tuesday, Saturday: 6:10 AM – 7:30 PM
Wednesday, Friday, Sunday: 6:10 AM – 7:30 PM
Shift days may change according to facility requirements.
Work Environment
All-male level 1 and 3 facility.
The role involves extensive walking and use of stairs.
Facility Rules
No cell phones allowed.
Must clear a metal detector.
No cans, tobacco, vapes, or similar items permitted.
Food must be stored in clear, see-through containers.
Only up to 1 gallon of water may be brought into the facility.
Job Duties
The following duties are illustrative and may include some or all of the tasks listed, or other related responsibilities as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide professional nursing care to inmates or consumers housed in state-owned or operated facilities and/or staff.
Observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress of infirmary patients and/or clinic out-patients.
Conduct nursing rounds, take and record vital signs.
Prepare and administer prescribed medications, treatment plans, and immunizations.
Monitor restrained patients (e.g., lock-ups, detention, isolation) at regular intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes).
Provide immediate medical attention during emergencies, including administering first aid, arranging hospital transportation, contacting physicians as needed, and counseling patients on medical referrals.
If assigned, schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff such as RNs and LPNs; this may include approving or disapproving leave requests and completing performance evaluations, though these tasks are not mandatory.
Participate in staff development and education.
Review care plans written by staff and assist in training and orienting new employees.
Corrections Medical Center Responsibilities
Manage all health care for 20-60 bedridden inmates, including making rounds, evaluating care needs, developing care plans, and teaching health care principles.
Administer medications, including narcotics, and provide all direct nursing care as required.
Perform specialized procedures such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusions, intubation, CPR, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, and phlebotomy.
Organize and oversee the 'code blue' team.
Direct health care staff such as hospital aides and licensed practical nurses assigned to the area.
Act as lead worker in charge of one assigned shift in the absence of a higher-level nurse.
Assist physicians with diagnostic health evaluations.
Perform clerical duties including charting and recording all medications, treatments, and relevant medical information.
Complete required reports such as incident and accident reports and document Medicaid information.
