Are you an experienced Operating Room nurse looking for premium pay, a consistent schedule, and the opportunity to work at one of the nation's leading academic medical centers?

UVA Health is seeking experienced OR Registered Nurses to join our Weekend Program within the Main Operating Room. This unique opportunity offers an enhanced compensation package, a predictable weekend-only schedule, and the chance to work alongside nationally recognized surgeons and interdisciplinary teams in a highly specialized surgical environment.

Friday, Saturday & Monday

7:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Program Highlights

Weekend-only schedule

$10/hour Weekend Program Premium

Travel allowance available for eligible employees commuting more than 75 miles one way

Twelve-month program commitment

Work 48 scheduled weekends within a 12-month period beginning with the first worked shift

About the Main Operating Room

The Main OR at UVA Health is a fast-paced, highly specialized surgical environment where teamwork, clinical expertise, and critical thinking are essential.

Our nurses care for patients across multiple complex surgical specialties while working with cutting-edge technology and nationally recognized surgeons.

Every team member plays a critical role in delivering exceptional surgical care.

Position Responsibilities

As a Main OR Registered Nurse, you will:

Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care for surgical patients

Scrub and circulate surgical procedures

Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary teams

Promote patient safety and evidence-based nursing practice

Maintain excellence in clinical documentation and patient advocacy

Participate in continuous learning and professional development

Qualifications

Required

Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure

Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room nursing experience

Experience in both scrub and circulating roles

Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following specialty service lines:

Gynecology

Urology

Orthopedics

General Surgery

Plastic Surgery

ENT

Neurosurgery

Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills

Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care

Preferred

Strong scrub experience across multiple specialties

Orientation

This position is intended for experienced perioperative nurses.

Because candidates are expected to have prior OR experience, Periop 101 is not included with this role.

Instead, nurses will complete a competency-based orientation developed by the UVA Health Main OR Education Team. Orientation is individualized based on each nurse's previous experience, demonstrated competencies, and assigned specialty.

Clinical Practice

This role is ideal for a capable clinician who is committed to expanding knowledge and refining clinical expertise.

The successful candidate consistently provides high-quality, evidence-based care for complex surgical patients while serving as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. Nurses in this role actively seek and incorporate feedback, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and begin developing leadership skills through mentoring and collaboration.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

When RN Clinician 2-OR has no previous OR experience he/she must successfully complete and pass final examination of the AORN Periop 101 Core Curriculum program within six months of hire.

Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping; Repetitive motion: passing instruments, lifting instrument sets. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 100lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $41.50 - $55.12 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
