Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - La Quinta, CA
Location: La Quinta, California
Schedule: Full-Time
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join a collaborative rehabilitation team. This role is ideal for an experienced COTA who thrives in helping frail and elderly patients regain independence, improve functional skills, and enhance their overall quality of life.
Position Summary
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will work under the supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists to implement individualized treatment plans. The COTA will deliver direct patient care, perform therapeutic interventions, support patient education, and ensure accurate documentation, while also contributing to scheduling, equipment management, and coordination with interdisciplinary care teams.
Core Responsibilities
Administer treatment programs as designed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Assist with obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength assessments.
Collaborate with the rehabilitation team to implement individualized care plans.
Manage scheduling of treatments, clinical visits, and billing activities.
Track and maintain therapy equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
Deliver and document occupational therapy interventions including use of adaptive devices, motor re-education techniques, perceptual-motor and cognitive training, balance, endurance, and ADL (activities of daily living) training.
Skills & Qualifications Associate's Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
Foreign-earned COTA degrees must be evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. degree.
Valid California Occupational Therapy Assistant License (or proof of eligibility).
Reliable means of transportation.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical COTA experience , preferably with frail or elderly populations.
Strong knowledge of occupational therapy techniques and interventions for complex patient needs.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
