Position Summary
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team investigating evolutionary and ecological processes in microbial communities using metagenomic data, in collaboration with Profs. Davorka Gulisija, Jennifer Rudgers and Marijan Posavi. The Research Assistant Professor will contribute to the development and implementation of computational and evolutionary models, assist in establishing and maintainance of reproducible bioinformatic pipelines for large-scale metagenomic data, and conduct statistical and evolutionary analyses. The candidate will work closely with collaborators and trainees to integrate theoretical predictions with empirical metagenomic data, interpret results, and develop new research directions. Responsibilities will also include contributing to scientific manuscripts, presentations, and other research products. The position is particularly well suited for a researcher with strong computational and quantitative skills and interests at the intersection of microbial ecology, evolutionary biology, population genetics, and metagenomics.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
Demonstrated proficiency in programming/coding.
Strong publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed biological science journal
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in computational biology or a closely related field as evidence by CV.
Strong publication record in mathematical or computational biology as evidence by CV.
Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate researchers as evidence by CV.
Strong programming and computational skills as evidence by CV.
A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities as evidence by CV.
