Water Lilies Food, LLC is a private equity-backed manufacturer and distributor of premium Asian-inspired food.Established for 25 years, the company moved in 2020 to a new state-of-the-art facility in Bay Shore, NY (Suffolk County Long Island) and is experiencing rapid growth.

Job Summary

The R&D Engineer role is an opportunity meant to fill the R&D team with talented individuals. We want to lean into your analytical skills and build your knowledge to help us get better. The R&D Engineer is responsible for assisting the R&D Manager with process development and optimization, scale-up of new products, validation of new equipment, and assisting the Operations team with their day-to-day operations. Reports to the R&D Manager and will collaborate with the Operations, Quality Assurance, Logistics, and Commercialization Departments.

Responsibilities

Identify and develop process optimization projects. Collaborate cross-functionally to execute these plans.

Identify formula improvements or cost reductions.

Internalize new equipment with hands on validation of process.

Become subject matter expert in existing equipment.

Develop SOPs for new and existing equipment and processes.

Train Operations staff to use new and existing equipment and processes.

Coordinate test runs and trials with production facilities and appropriate departments.

Assist with new product scale up, including production trials.

Coordinate in-house or 3rd-party analytical studies for projects as requested.

Support Operations in selection and use of equipment for production.

Provides support for other teams as requested.

Provides technical expertise and training as requested.

Requirements / Competencies

Education BS in Engineering.

Minimum 3 years of engineering experience, in the food & beverage industry preferred

Experience with product development and large-scale commercialization

Strong attention to detail

Analytical Capabilities

Computer proficiency including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook

Critical Thinking

Excellent interpersonal skills

Passion for the food industry

Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks

Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment

Ability to work with little or no supervision

Physical Requirements

This role requires physical mobility of the employee as they will need to enter various parts of the factory. The employee will occasionally move within the office to access office machinery, file cabinets, and collaborate with colleagues. Consistent use of office equipment, such equipment may include but not limited to computers, phones, printers, and copiers. The employee will be required to frequently communicate with both internal staff members as well as external parties or customers and must be able to convey accurate information. This position may require repositioning of or movement of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
