Job description

Now Hiring: Research Program Manager, Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance

We’re growing our team!

The ShepsGME Technical Assistance Center is seeking a Research Program Manager to lead the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of technical assistance services that support GME program development, expansion, and sustainability across North Carolina and the nation.

This position is ideal for a professional with a strong understanding of graduate medical education, healthcare workforce development, and stakeholder engagement. The Research Program Manager will serve as a key operational manager supporting federally and state-funded initiatives designed to increase residency training opportunities in rural and medically underserved communities.

What You’ll Do

Education

As a central member of the ShepsGME team, you will coordinate and manage a broad portfolio of GME-focused technical assistance and educational activities, including:

Marketing and promotion of GME technical assistance services and workforce development initiatives

Storytelling and strategic communications showcasing outcomes from Teaching Health Center, Rural Residency, and other GME initiatives

Planning and execution of GME-focused webinars, Peer Learning Networks (PLNs), Communities of Practice (COPs), workshops, and educational programming

Coordination of statewide and national conferences, summits, annual meetings, and continuing education activities (CME/CDE)

Management of routine reporting and performance documentation for federal and state GME initiatives, including federally-funded programs and state workforce development efforts

Oversight of GME resource libraries, online toolboxes, website content, and digital engagement platforms

Budget management, scheduling, reimbursement processing, project coordination, and supervision of staff and student employees

Why This Role Matters

Every activity in this role contributes to a larger mission: helping healthcare organizations develop and sustain residency training programs that improve access to care in communities facing physician and dental workforce shortages.

The Research Program Manager will work alongside nationally recognized leaders in GME policy, research, and technical assistance to support programs that shape the future healthcare workforce and improve training opportunities across the country.

If you bring expertise in program management, healthcare education, stakeholder engagement, communications, and a passion for Graduate Medical Education, we encourage you to apply.
