Job description

Residential Property Appraisal Deputy – Fieldwork

Do you enjoy working independently, being outside, and using technology? Are you the kind of person who notices details others miss? We're looking for a Residential Appraisal Deputy to help make sure homes and agricultural properties in Allen County are assessed fairly and accurately.

This is a field-based role with time in the office too. You'll be visiting neighborhoods, measuring homes and structures, collecting data, and entering it into our specialized software. The work you do helps ensure a fair and balanced property tax system for everyone in our community.

Visit residential and agricultural properties for inspections

Measure buildings and yard structures to ensure accurate records

Compare what you see on-site with what's in the system – and make updates

Use computer systems like CAMA and GIS mapping tools

Analyze satellite images to spot changes in property features

Explain assessments and answer questions from homeowners and property owners

Help ensure accuracy through data audits and team collaboration

Enjoy both working outdoors and doing desk work

Have strong attention to detail – you notice things others don't

Like to work independently but still enjoy being part of a team

Are confident using tech tools and picking up new systems

Are comfortable talking to people and explaining things clearly

Want to grow your career and gain state certifications

Have a valid driver's license – and like driving around the community

High School Diploma or GED

1+ year of experience in customer service, sales, data entry, or similar

Willingness and ability to earn your Indiana Level II Assessor-Appraiser certification within 6 months (we help with this!)

Commitment to earning Level III within 18 months after Level II

Experience with measuring or evaluating property is a plus – but not required

Solid computer skills – Microsoft Office, email, and learning specialized software

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

A mix of fieldwork and office work

You'll be on your feet a lot, walking, measuring, and inspecting

Must be comfortable working in various weather conditions

Occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs), climbing stairs, bending, or reaching

If you're detail-oriented, like a mix of indoor and outdoor work, and are ready to learn, we'd love to hear from you! This is more than just a job—it's a chance to help your community and grow a career in the public sector.

Apply now and make a real impact in Allen County! Please complete the application accurately and thoroughly. A resume is optional. Remember to save and submit your application. If applying for multiple positions, submit a separate application for each one. You'll receive an email confirmation once your application is received. Due to the high volume of applications, further communication will only occur if you're selected for an interview.
