nIn this role, focus will be on diagnostic testing, patient education, and supporting pulmonologists in diagnosing and managing lung diseases. Pulmonary function testing includes both spirometry and full pulmonary function testing including lung volume measurements, diffusion capacity, and bronchodilator responsiveness testing. Additional testing may include six-minute walk tests, exercise oximetry, methacholine challenge testing, and arterial blood gas sampling.
nDepartment: Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonology
nSchedule: Full Time, 40 hours at SSM Health Outpatient Center-Madison. There are no nights, weekends, or holidays. Flexible shift options including 8-10 hour days.

nJob Summary:
nProvides diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary function in patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
nJob Responsibilities and Requirements:
nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
nnnPerforms ordered pulmonary function and pulmonary stress testing. Monitors and evaluates patient response during and after testing. Documents and reports testing results.
n
nnDetermines testing reference ranges and interprets results. Recognizes and corrects for invalid test results.
n
nnPrepares, maintains and calibrates pulmonary function testing equipment. Maintains adequate levels of supplies used for testing. Troubleshoots equipment problems and reports needed repairs/replacements.
n
nnProvides education and resources to patient and/or patient's family based on clinical implications.
n
nnWorks in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.
n
n nEDUCATION
nnAssociate's degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent years of experience and education.
n nEXPERIENCE
nnNo experience required.
n nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
nnnConstant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
n
nnConstant standing and walking.
n
nnFrequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
n
nnFrequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
n
nnFrequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
n
nnFrequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
n
nnFrequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
n
nnOccasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
n
nnOccasional lifting/moving of patients.
n
nnOccasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
n
nnOccasional driving.

nnRare crawling and running.
