nJob Description:
nnnRecommends changes in respiratory care plans based on documented medical necessity and established protocols.
n
nnInstructs and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery, preventing and resolving side effects.
n
nnAdjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria, using data such as pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, and lab work.
n
nnServes as a resource to staff, providing training and instruction to cardiopulmonary and other staff, and supervising student preceptorship programs.
n
nnInitiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining ventilator mode and settings and reevaluating patient/ventilator interface every four hours.
n
nnDraws and analyzes arterial blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management based on blood gas results.
n
nnResponds to emergencies, establishing and maintaining airways and performing CPR.
n
nnOperates as support staff for cardiopulmonary diagnostics, performing cardiac stress testing, setting up and discontinuing holter monitors, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function testing, and electroencephalograms per facility needs.
n
nnProvides assistance with additional services such as conscious sedation, broncho thermaplasty, bedside bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, navigational bronchoscopy, and trans-radial band removal per facility needs.
n
nnMaintains a supportive atmosphere conducive to quality care, department growth, staff development, and high morale.
n
nnSupervises the delivery of cardiopulmonary care in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
n
nnMonitors patient progress by ensuring effective therapist assessment and reassessment.
n
nnOther duties as assigned.

n nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
nnnPatient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations (Required)
n
nnIntubations and airway management for all populations served. (Preferred)
n
nnVentilator Management for all populations served. (Preferred)
n
nnArterial line placements. (Preferred)
n
nnMust demonstrate exceptional clinical skills with potential leadership qualities. (Preferred)
n
nnMust be a graduate of an approved school of respiratory therapy or have equivalent training. (Required)
n
nnExperience in an acute care environment is necessary, with expertise in blood gas laboratory management. (Required)
n
nnRoutinely assesses the respiratory status of the patient and initiates re-evaluation of therapy when indicated. Identifies immediate/potential problems and takes appropriate action, prioritizing to provide the proper response to patient needs. (Required)
n
nnServes as an educational resource to other staff members, patients, and family members. (Required)
n
nnCommunicates effectively and documents thoroughly. Seeks to continuously improve both individual and group performance, maintaining high professional standards. Customer service is always the primary objective in day-to-day interactions. Displays work habits which are considerate of others, safe, and orderly. (Required)

n nWork Experience:
nn3+ years of hospital experience as RRT (Required)

nnNBRC credential must be maintained as a condition of continued role eligibility.
