Role: Part-time Night shift RN position – Cardiac Surgery unit

Schedule: . 6 FTE working four 12-hour Night shifts every two weeks

Unit: 36-bed inpatient cardiac surgery unit

Hospital: Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend - 350 bed acute care medical center with level II trauma center, STEMI Center and Stroke Center

Location

Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend is situated along the Mckenzie River in Springfield, Oregon. Located an hour from the Pacific Ocean and 2 hours South of Portland, Oregon, Springfield and its sister city Eugene are adventure-driven destinations. A current wage range of$50.78 – $79.78, rate of pay is dependent upon RN experience and terms of the Oregon Nurses Association union contract.

Additional compensation for BSN (4%), MSN (5%) and Specialty Nursing Certification ($3.75)

Position Details

Provide care of post cardiac surgery patients. Nursing care of stroke patients with cardiac co-morbidity, 8-24 hours post tPA or thrombectomy or more frequent monitoring than can be provided on the floor. Care of patients post Carotid Artery Stenting, and coiling of non-ruptured aneurysms. Performance of NIHSS, nursing bedside swallow screen.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.

Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.

Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.

Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.

Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.

Perform stroke patient education utilizing health literacy education principles. Familiar with stroke guideline driven stroke discharge medications

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Accredited School of Nursing Required

Requires: 1-year RN experience in an acute care hospital with cardiac nursing experience preferred

Required: Oregon Registered Nurse License

Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification

Required: ACLS and NIHSS certifications required within six months of hire

Preferred: BSN

Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required)

Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment (Required)

Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures (Required)

Basic computer skills (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).

Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.

Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
