Responsibilities
As part of the region's largest health system, you will join a collaborative Perioperative Services team that supports a wide range of high-acuity surgical specialties, including trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, gynecology, vascular access, oral and maxillofacial surgery and general surgery. The RN Educator, Perioperative Services plays a critical role in supporting staff across Pre-Operative Education, Short Stay and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, ensuring safe, consistent, and evidence-based perioperative care.
In this role, you will plan and coordinate orientation and onboarding for new hires and transfers, ensuring staff are prepared to safely care for high-acuity patients across all age groups. You will design, deliver and evaluate staff education, competency fairs and ongoing learning initiatives while serving as a mentor and trusted clinical resource for nurses and ancillary staff. You will maintain hands-on involvement in patient care to support clinical competence, regulatory compliance and credibility with perioperative teams, including providing guidance during complex or high-risk situations. You will also lead the Unit Practice Council, collaborate with interdisciplinary partners, and support staff-identified problem solving and performance improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) OR other healthcare-related Bachelor's Degree required
Experience
• 5 years of experience in surgical and/or perioperative nursing, with demonstrated competence in various surgical specialties required
• Experience in patient and staff education development and implementation, quality improvement, program development and professional development required
Licenses and Certifications
• RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California required
• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Additional unit specific requirements required
