The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Meritus Medical Center offers an exceptional opportunity to join a highly skilled team of critical care nurses in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment. This role provides a high level of clinical autonomy while caring for a diverse population of surgical and trauma patients.
Our unit maintains low nurse-to-patient ratios in alignment with national ASPAN standards, fully supported by a dedicated leadership team. This structure allows nurses the time and resources to deliver safe, high-quality, and individualized patient care.
As a Phase I recovery unit, PACU RNs are responsible for continuous monitoring, assessment, and intervention for post‑operative patients emerging from anesthesia. Nurses in this role are exposed to a wide variety of surgical procedures and benefit from ongoing opportunities to learn about advancements in surgical and recovery care.
In addition to recovery services, the PACU supports hospital operations by:
Serving as an overflow unit for critically ill patients during periods of high census
Functioning as a pre‑operative holding area, providing patient preparation and nursing care prior to surgery
Assisting anesthesia providers with patient assessments and pre‑procedural evaluations
Requirements
ASN Required. BSN Preferred.
Minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse required.
PACU, Surgical Services, or Critical Care experience preferred.
Current Maryland RN license or Active Compact/ Multistate RN license recognized by MBON
