We have 20 Labor Rooms, 3 dedicated OR suites as well as a newly renovated PACU. We have an 11 bed high risk Antepartum unit as well as the first Obstetric Emergency Department in the state of Alabama managed by our team of board certified OB/GYN Hospitalists. We collaborate with many disciplines including our Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians to care for a variety of patients along the obstetric spectrum from managing any complication or condition during pregnancy like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes to providing care and support to a mother while laboring and giving birth.

The L&D RN is skilled in caring for pregnant patients during labor, obstetrical emergencies and other obstetric conditions. In addition to assisting women throughout labor and the birthing process, the L&D RN is an active role in cesarean section deliveries as the patient’s circulating nurse as well as the scrub nurse that assists the physician with the birth of the infant and the repair of the mother. They provide incredible patient support, critical nursing care and comprehensive pregnancy and postpartum education.

The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift, and strives to provide clinical and service excellence. The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment. The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs.
