As a Roll Shop Operator, you will play a key role in supporting production by preparing, assembling, disassembling, and re-machining mill tooling and stands. This hands-on, mechanically inclined role offers a structured skill-based pathway with opportunities to advance to Level III and potentially transition into Millwright roles.Your Day-to-Day ImpactYou'll play a vital role in our Roll Shop team by:Operating CNC lathes and mills to re-machine rolls and tooling.Disassembling and assembling roll stands, gearboxes, and hydraulic components.Performing mechanical rebuilds including bearing changes, hydraulic fitting replacements, and gearbox maintenance.Using hand and specialty tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, micrometers, calipers) to complete tasks with precision.Torch cutting and minor welding as needed.Cleaning, prepping, and maintaining tooling and work areas (5S standards).Accurately documenting measurements, diameters, and quality data per shop requirements.Communicating tooling issues or quality excursions to the mill team.Rotating through up to 7 different positions within the shop, gaining cross-functional experience.Participating in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.Supporting contractors (primarily millwrights) and collaborating closely with maintenance teams.What You BringWe're looking for candidates who are sharp, safety-focused, and ready to roll up their sleeves:High School Diploma or GED (required)General mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machine shop environments.Experience with CNC lathe operations and basic programming preferred.Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow SOPs.Proficient in using measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).Comfortable with hydraulic systems, bolts, fittings, and mechanical assemblies.Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and unit conversions.Ability to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and motorized vehicles.Strong work ethic and willingness to train and grow within the role.Technical degree or Machinist certification preferred.Candidates who do not pass the maintenance assessment may still be considered for production roles.What You'll GainGet paid for what you know - and earn more as you learn more.Opportunities to work on cutting-edge equipment.A culture that values your input and celebrates improvement.Real growth potential in a stable, essential industry.Overtime opportunitiesAnd Benefits that Include:Medical, Dental, and Vision CoverageCompany-Paid Life Insurance & Short/Long-Term DisabilityProfit Sharing: Up to 4%401(k): Company match 4.5% with no vesting periodPaid Parental Leave: For birthing and non-birthing parents, including adoptionsPaid Holidays: 10 days, plus 1 personal floating holidayPaid Vacation TimeDiscretionary Performance-Based Bonus ProgramTuition ReimbursementSafety isn't negotiable, it's who we are.
