Position Overview
The Director of Safety is a key leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and leading AAA Landscape's company-wide safety program across landscape construction, landscape maintenance, yards, vehicles, equipment, and field operations.
This position is responsible for building and maintaining a strong safety-first culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing workplace risk, developing safety programs and training, investigating incidents, and partnering with operational leaders to protect our employees and strengthen business performance.
The Director of Safety will work closely with executive leadership, Human Resources, Account Managers, Foremen, Crew Leaders, and field employees to ensure safety is incorporated into how work is planned, communicated, supervised, and performed.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate must be comfortable developing strategy at the executive level while also spending significant time in the field—walking active construction projects, visiting maintenance accounts, conducting inspections, coaching field leaders, investigating incidents, and holding leaders accountable for safety performance.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in landscape construction and maintenance safety and understand the unique hazards associated with outdoor work, irrigation, hardscape, planting, equipment, vehicles, heat exposure, traffic, chemicals, and other landscape operations.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
10+ years of progressive safety experience, preferably within landscape construction, landscape maintenance, commercial construction, or a closely related industry.
Demonstrated experience leading safety programs across multiple active jobsites and field operations.
Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and safety regulations.
Demonstrated experience conducting:
Jobsite inspections
Safety audits
Incident investigations
Root-cause analysis
Corrective action planning
Experience developing and implementing company-wide safety programs, policies, procedures, and training.
Experience working directly with executive leadership and operational leaders.
Strong understanding of landscape construction and maintenance means, methods, equipment, and field hazards.
Ability to translate safety data into practical actions that improve field performance.
Strong leadership, communication, coaching, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to influence employees and leaders at all levels of an organization.
Ability and willingness to spend significant time in the field and travel between AAA Landscape locations and active project sites.
CSP – Certified Safety Professional
CHST – Construction Health and Safety Technician
OSHA 30-Hour Construction
OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction
First Aid / CPR / AED
Other construction safety, occupational health, or risk-management certifications are a plus.

The right person understands how landscape construction and maintenance operations work and can establish safety standards without losing credibility with the field.
This individual should be equally comfortable:
Walking an active construction site with a Foreman.
Meeting with Account Managers and Project Managers to address safety concerns.
Coaching a Crew Leader on hazard recognition.
Investigating an employee injury or vehicle accident.
Reviewing safety metrics with executive leadership.
Developing company-wide safety initiatives.
Holding leaders accountable for safety performance.
The Director of Safety must be able to lead through influence, relationships, accountability, and credibility, while maintaining the authority necessary to address serious safety concerns.
