Job description
Health and Safety Superintendent
General Description:
The Safety Engineer works to eliminate or control hazardous conditions created by human error or equipment/machine operation that may result in injury to personnel or damage to equipment or property. Develops and implements loss prevention, safety and health, and emergency preparedness programs. Works to ensure plant-wide compliance with OSHA and IVXP Safety regulations. Advises management on interpretation and application of rules and regulations related to Safety, Emergency Response, Fire Systems and Process Safety Management. Must have the ability to apply the proper principles, standards, practices, or techniques to ensure the site is safe and in compliance with government regulations and IVXP policies.
Roles and Responsibilities
Performs duties related to safety programs
Participates in hazard reviews
Serves as technical resource for HAZOP team
Conducts and signs-off Pre-startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and Management of Change (MOC) bulletins
Leads, or assists with, incident investigations
Coordinates HSSE audits; coordinates completion of response and action plans
Participates in Turn Around and Shut Down meetings
Originates, reviews and updates safety regulations
Serves as unit HSSE resource; responds to requests for day-to-day and TAR technical assistance
Participates in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Group Risk Assessments (GRA)
Participates in contractor safety meetings
Manages HSSE programs
Oversee unit safety programs; assures compliance with OSHA regulations
Implements local and corporate safety policies
Recommend changes in policies and procedures
Participates in unit safety meetings
Participates in and leads safety audits
Coordinates external audits; provides information to auditors
Review safety statistics analyzes data and identifies trends makes recommendations for corrective action
Coordinates housekeeping audits
Reviews and approvals work permit templates for Confined Space Entry (CSE), Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) Hot Work (HW) and other safety related permits.
Prepares, and/or oversees the preparation of monthly and annual safety reports
Perform duties related to safety training and interaction
Research training materials and makes recommendations for employee training
Develops and delivers employee training
Interacts with vendors, suppliers and contractors
Interacts with regulatory agencies
Participating in professional organizations
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
Maintains a clean and well-organized work area
Attend meetings as required
Attends training as requiredComplies with all HSSE programs, policies and procedures
Participates on the Incident Management Team
Participates on various HSSE committees
Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Certifications Required:
5 years plus experience in manufacturing with responsibilities expected for experience
Excellent oral and written communications and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of local, state and federal safety regulations
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Power Point
Ability to recognize and evaluate hazards
Knowledge of manufacturing operations
Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal safety programs and regulations
Education, Experience, Certifications Preferred:
2 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing
Professional certification CSP or CIH
Experience with ISO Certifications
