Location: Louisville, KY
Work Arrangement: Onsite – 5 days per week

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Transmission SCADA & Automation Engineer to join their Transmission SCADA and Automation team. This position will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SCADA and substation automation solutions across the transmission network.
This is a newer function within the team, providing an opportunity for an engineer to work across SCADA, substation automation, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), networking, scripting, and utility engineering .
The ideal candidate does not need to be an expert in every area. The team is looking for a technically curious engineer who can communicate effectively, troubleshoot problems, collaborate across engineering and compliance teams, and grow into the function.
Key Responsibilities
Support Transmission SCADA and substation automation activities, including RTU configuration/programming, point list development, troubleshooting, and related engineering support.
Support automation initiatives involving IP connectivity to substations and intelligent substation devices.
Develop, maintain, and improve IED management solutions and associated processes.
Assist with scripting and automation tasks to improve engineering, maintenance, and support processes.
Utilize Python or other scripting languages to automate repetitive tasks, support data management, and improve operational efficiency.
Support the integration and management of devices such as relays, RTUs, gateways, IEDs, and other smart-grid equipment .
Assist with troubleshooting SCADA, automation, communications, and device-related issues.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, IT/networking, and compliance teams to develop and implement technical standards, best practices, and innovative solutions.
Contribute to the development and documentation of processes, standards, and procedures related to Transmission SCADA and automation.
Support projects involving substation communications, device management, automation, and related technology implementations.
Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Participate in other SCADA, automation, and engineering initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, technical, and business stakeholders.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week at the South Service Center .
Preferred Qualifications
2–5 years of professional engineering experience , preferably within the electric utility industry.
Experience working within a NERC-regulated utility environment, with familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards and/or NERC CIP requirements.
Experience with Transmission or Distribution SCADA, substation automation, controls, or related utility systems .
Experience working with relays, RTUs, gateways, IEDs, or other intelligent/smart-grid devices .
Experience with protection and controls , relay testing, or substation engineering.
Familiarity with IED management solutions .
Understanding of substation IP connectivity, networking, and communications .
Experience with Python or another scripting language for automation, troubleshooting, data manipulation, or engineering support.
Experience supporting utility technology, SCADA, EMS/DMS, or related operational systems.
General understanding of electric transmission systems and substation operations.
