Job description

Regis Jesuit High School is seeking a School Counselor to begin the school year, This position will be placed on the Faculty Salary Scale, based on education level and years of experience (from BA, Tier 1: $55,215 through MA+45, Tier 30: $107,095). We give 1:1 credit for the first ten years of teaching and 1:2 for years over ten, with no maximum until Tier 30. Full benefits are available. nThe School Counselor helps all students develop skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.

n

nEssential Job Functions (Responsibilities)

Work collaboratively with counseling staff to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that meets the needs of students in grades 9-12

Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the academic, social/emotional and college/career (before students begin working directly with college counselors) needs of students

Assist students to develop a five-year (four years of high school plus one year of college) educational plan

Work collaboratively with staff and administration to coordinate all services for students and assist with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school

Create informational programming for parents about such topics as social/emotional issues, preliminary information on preparing for careers, in conjunction with the other counselors.

Communicate with parents in a timely manner including planning, implementing, and providing feedback in group and individual meetings about issues that impact the student

Work closely with all members of the school community regarding the welfare of students

Assist teachers and administration with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies, and assisting student with course selections that are the most challenging and appropriate for graduation requirements and career plans

Consult with and serving as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the needs of the student

Create and coordinate parts of IMPACT program

Work collaboratively with counseling staff to assist testing coordinator in administering standardized tests for the school, accurately interpreting test results, and other student data

Work collaboratively with the Equity Coordinator and the Dean(s) of Students on cases potentially involving the Harassment, Violence and Discrimination policy.

Maintain accurate records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions involving students while maintaining the appropriate policies relating to confidentiality

Work collaboratively with Learning Services in supporting students in their academics

Refer students and their parents to RJ therapists, community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate

Participate in the school-based crisis team and threat assessment team as appropriate

Participate in student retreats, masses, service opportunities and orientation programs

Work collaboratively with counseling staff and administration to determine student needs and to develop and implement programs that meet those needs including the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program

Work with diverse student populations and serving as an advocate for students

Serve on committees that are an integral part of the school

Attend outside extra-curricular events and sponsoring events that occur on the RJHS campus

Attend workshops and classes that further your knowledge and help remain current with programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of students

Be part of a team of life-long learners who will serve as a model for our students and will commit to implementing effective school practices

n Requirements (Education, Experience, Required/Preferred Skills)

Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Jesuit education as set forth in Regis Jesuit’s mission statement and the “Profile of the Jesuit High School Graduate at Graduation”;

Colorado Professional Special Services License with an endorsement in School Counseling (0-21)

Master’s degree in school counseling or be working toward a master’s degree, meeting the guidelines stated in the faculty handbook

Extensive experience (preferably 5 years or more) in personal counseling with high school students

Capable of working collaboratively

Able to communicate clearly, both verbal and written, with students, parents and administration

Willing to be an important part of developing a vision for Regis Jesuit
