Job description
School Maintenance WorkerThe School Maintenance Worker maintains a safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained school facility. This position performs routine maintenance and repairs throughout the building and grounds, conducts regular inspections, identifies maintenance concerns, and promptly reports issues requiring specialized services or outside contractors to the School Operations Manager. The Maintenance Worker works closely with the School Operations Manager to ensure that facility needs are addressed promptly and that the school environment remains safe and operational for scholars, staff, and families.Key Deliverables:Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the school building and groundsRepair or replace basic hardware, fixtures, furniture, doors, locks, handles, shelving, and other facility items as neededPerform minor plumbing repairs, such as replacing faucets, handles, toilet components, and other basic fixturesPerform minor electrical and facility repairs within the employee's training and authorized responsibilitiesAddress basic heating, cooling, and ventilation maintenance concerns and report larger system issuesRepair walls, ceilings, flooring, trim, and other building surfaces when appropriateAssist with painting, touch-ups, and general building improvementsAssemble, install, relocate, and maintain school equipment and furnishingRespond to maintenance requests from school administration and staffEnsure daily building readiness by checking and maintaining appropriate temperatures and monitoring heating, cooling, and ventilation systems; make authorized thermostat adjustments, identify and document recurring temperature concerns, and promptly report HVAC issues or malfunctions to the School Operations Manager.Conduct routine building and grounds inspections, identify safety and maintenance concerns, and document and report needed repairsIdentify and report specialized repair needs, coordinate contractor access and on-site support, and follow up on outstanding maintenance issuesMaintain a safe, compliant work environment by following safety procedures, addressing hazards, using equipment and materials properly, securing work areas, and documenting inspections and maintenance activities.Maintain organized maintenance areas, tools, equipment, and supplies; support school events and facility need, address weather-related concerns, and perform other operational duties as assigned.Other duties as assignedExperience and Education Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious experience in building maintenance, facilities, construction, custodial maintenance, or a related field preferredBasic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and general building maintenanceThe Network: PLA is a transformative education nonprofit changing communities across the country by providing a depth of resources not found in the traditional education model.
