Job description

School Nurse AssistantReports To: Licensed District Registered Nurse and Campus PrincipalQualifications:1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate2. Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills.An example of an acceptable combination is:Graduation from High School and one year of related work experience in a health office.LVN or Paramedic trained is preferred3. Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate5. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.Primary Purpose: Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.Terms Of Employment: Noncontractual (At-will), Clerical/Technical, 170 days, estimated 8 hours daily, Wage/Hour status: NonexemptMajor Responsibilities And Duties:Administers medications to students under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.Demonstrates skills to administer first aid/CPR; handling body fluids and waste materials; operate standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; prepare and maintain accurate records; respond appropriately to medical emergencies; prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written materials; operate a computer using word processing and other business software and standard office equipment.Maintains knowledge of emergency first aid/CPR procedures; safety practices and procedures; health standards and reporting procedures; local communicable diseases and their precautions, treatments and side effects; public health agencies and local health care resources available to district students and staff.Assists with vision and hearing screening.Cleans work areas (e.g. sinks, counters, cots, etc.).Communicates with students, teachers, counselors, parents, etc. and responds to questions related to students health under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.Maintains student health records (e.g. prescription dispensing log, accident reports, claim forms, etc.) under the direction of a credentialed School Nurse.Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment; special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extensionLifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory studentsEnvironment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseasesMental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stressThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
