Job Title: Certified School Nurse
Supervisor: Director of Special Services Building Principal/Director as appropriate Qualification Requirements: 1. Illinois Professional Educator License, (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), endorsed for School Nurse 2. Must be skilled at working in a team atmosphere This person will have responsibilities within the building as part of a Professional Learning Community 3. Must be adept at building relationships and maintaining high academic and behavioral standards for all students 4. Possess competence in computer skills 5. Must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and families, to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential
Summary: To provide direct nursing services to students and staff members in order to maximize health and wellness in the school community. Duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, the IL Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act, and District and State Board of Education policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and State and local mandates 2. Administer medication with appropriate documentation 3. Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates (i.e. immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, and the related archival responsibilities) 4. Perform mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing (requires state credentials as a screener) 5. Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter 6. Maintain communication with the certificated school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students 7. Provide health services and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community 8. Complete accident/incident reports for students/staff 9. Compile data for statistical purposes 10. Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues, both within and out of the school setting 11. Maintain a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records 12. Maintain the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies 13. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties 14. Perform other health or school-related work as required 15. Maintain contact with a professional nursing organization and utilize continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge 16. Participate as an active member of the school community, representing health/wellness 17. To perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned 18. Supports the East Moline School District #37 and imparts a positive image of the District within the schools and community
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year as determined by the Board of Education, East Moline School District #37 Board Policy, and applicable collective bargaining agreement Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Licensed Personnel
