nNO holidays, weekends or evenings! Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 7:30am-2:30pm; Wednesday 7:30am-3:30pm.

n$26.19 per hour - $30.00 per hour

nPOSITION SUMMARY:

nThe Registered Nurse provides health care to students ensuring the maintenance of optimal health standards for all students. The Registered Nurse serves as an advocate for health rights of students; consultant for health concerns of students; and promoter of sound health care practices within the school.

nSUCCESSION PATH: Successful incumbents may be considered for advancement into Agency Clinical Nurse Coordinator position (or others based on interest) based on organizational need and readiness.

nESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

nnnProvides primary health care in the school setting and serves as a direct link between health care providers, families, staff and community agencies to facilitate continuity of health care for students.

n

nnMaintains compliance with Beyond Support Network clinical policies and procedures, NYSED policies, and New York State Department of Health requirements.

n

nnPerforms duties in a manner consistent with professional standards, professional confidentiality and other state/local statutes and/or regulations applicable to school nursing practice.

n

nnConduct health and wellness assessments for students per Beyond Support Network clinical policies and procedures.

n

nnProvides first aid and clinical assessment for staff per Beyond Support Network policies and procedures.

n

nnNotifies family or emergency contacts of changes in student’s health status and evaluations.

n

nnDocuments clinic visits on Nursing Services Form, provides copy for parent.

n

nnFollows Communicable Disease Control Procedures, informs and advises parents and/or staff regarding policy for school exclusion and readmission.

n

nnDistributes pertinent medical information to Beyond Support Network staff to assure the health, safety and confidentiality of the students.

n

nnEvaluates need for consult/referrals to MD, therapies, outside agencies.

n

nnMonitors students for evidence of physical/sexual abuse and/or neglect of students and reports as mandated by law, including pictures where applicable.

n

nnEducates families and staff through health training and literature, as needed.

n

nnAdministers and documents medications, medical testing and treatments per health care providers’ orders, parental permission according to Beyond Support Network policies and procedures, State and County guidelines.

n

nnMaintains current MD orders and parental permission and according to Beyond Support Network policies and procedures.

n

nnPrepares a student plan of care for warranted medical conditions including but not limited to asthma, fracture, infections, seizure, and diabetes.

n

nnCollaborates with instructional team as needed.

n

nnServes as a teacher/ supervisor for college nursing students/interns during the fall/spring semester.

n

nnTracks current physical and Immunization records for students and requests updates as needed.

n

nnMaintains Data Base with accurate, current medical information.

n

nnProvides Universal Precaution Protective Equipment and supplies to staff as appropriate.

n

nnCompletes accurate documentation on staff accident reports for all on the job accidents/injuries and forwards original to Human Resources.

n

nnMonitors school environment and reports recommendations for changes to reduce health and safety hazards.

n

nnMaintains clinical records for current students, assuring confidentiality, including locking clinic when nurses are out.

n

nnAssures proper storage of medications in double-lock cabinet.

n

nnArchives closed student medical records annually.

n

nnMaintains all required documentation including session notes, nursing service form, seizure report, medication administration record, treatment record, telephone communication log, and accident and injury reports in an accurate, concise and timely manner.

n

nnMaintains clinical supplies inventory.

n

nnUtilizes UKERU procedures in the School Program when necessary.

n

nnConducts body checks on students involved in physical interventions and documents in accordance with UKERU protocol.

n

nnConsistently complies with all agency policies and procedures.

n

nnConstantly maintains high professional standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with other staff and families.

n

nnPerforms other duties as requested by the Agency Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Director of Clinical Services, and/or Chief Education Officer.

n

n nSUCCESS FACTORS:

nThe Registered Nurse is expected to consistently demonstrate the following core competencies in the provision of nursing services and collaboration within the school setting:

nAccountability & Dependability: Reliably fulfills assigned nursing responsibilities, including health assessments, medication administration, documentation, and follow-up care. Ensures compliance with agency policies, NYSED requirements, and New York State Department of Health regulations. Follows through on student care plans, reporting, and professional obligations.

nCommunication: Communicates clearly, professionally, and respectfully with students, families, staff, health care providers, and community agencies. Effectively shares health-related information, care instructions, and updates to support continuity of care while maintaining confidentiality.

nPlanning & Organizing: Plans and organizes daily nursing activities, health screenings, medication schedules, documentation, and recordkeeping. Manages multiple priorities efficiently to meet student health needs and regulatory timelines.

nAdaptability & Flexibility: Adjusts priorities and nursing interventions in response to changing student health needs, emergencies, staffing demands, or environmental conditions. Responds effectively to unexpected situations while maintaining quality of care and compliance.

nSelf-Management: Demonstrates professionalism, emotional regulation, and sound judgment in high-pressure or emergency situations. Manages workload, time, and stress effectively while maintaining ethical standards and clinical competence.

nFlexibility: Demonstrates willingness to modify schedules, care approaches, and routines as needed to support students, staff, and program needs. Supports school operations while maintaining appropriate nursing standards.

nListening: Actively listens to students, families, and staff to understand health concerns, symptoms, and needs. Uses information gathered through listening to inform clinical assessments, interventions, and referrals.

nSafety Focus: Maintains a strong focus on student and staff safety. Ensures proper medication storage, infection control, universal precautions, SCIP procedures, and emergency response protocols are followed consistently.

nAttention to Detail: Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in documentation, medication administration, recordkeeping, and reporting. Carefully monitors student health information, orders, permissions, and clinical data to reduce risk and ensure compliance.

nQUALIFICATIONS:

nRequired:

nCurrent NYS Registered Nurse License and Certification; Current CPR Certificate; One year of nursing experience, preferably in school setting or servicing children.

nMust have or achieve certification within 3 months of hire in the following:

nnUKERU

n nApplicants must be comfortable using computers and technology in a professional setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, along with the ability and willingness to learn and use organizational software systems and electronic documentation platforms.
