School Safety OfficerQualifications:A High School DiplomaCompletion of the MDE School Safety Officer Basic Course and Forty (40) hours of MDE sanctioned in-service training per yearSuch alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptableTerms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the School BoardReports To: Principal/Safety CoordinatorJob Goals: To effectively perform routine assigned duties of safety and physical security under the supervision of a school administrator. To conduct routine patrols, secure buildings, and check for safety hazardsJob Responsibilities: Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of ConductPatrols and monitors the campus and surrounding areas, bus stops, parks, and other public and unsupervised places to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the securityDisplays ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schoolPromotes student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally. Assists parents with the completion of school documents (e.g. registration packets) for the purpose of facilitating the exchange of accurate information between school and homeIntervenes in situations likely to result in disruption/injury and directs students to refrain from conductEnsures a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on time arrival to class and assigned locationsAssists with supervision in the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of studentsAssists the staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situationsAssists visitors with directions and securing proper identification. Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exitsNotifies the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situationsReports on time to duty posts and performs duty responsibilities as assigned by school administrationFollows all board policies and proceduresMaintains regular attendance and is punctualPromotes the district's vision, mission, and goalsPerforms any other duties as assigned by school administrationJob Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional PersonnelThe employee is required to perform all related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator and/or supervisor.
