Job Summary:

HQ aero is currently recruiting for an Seasonal Tax Preparer in North Central, WV

We are seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to support out team during the busy tax season of February through May. The Seasonal 1040 Tax Preparer will prepare and review individual income tax returns while working closely with clients and firm leadership to ensure timely and accurate filing. This position offers flexible scheduling and may be performed remotely, hybrid, or in-office, depending on candidate qualifications and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns (Forms 1040 and related schedules).

Review client tax documents, including W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, brokerage statements, and other supporting information.

Identify tax credits, deductions, and planning opportunities.

Communicate professionally with clients regarding missing information and return status updates.

Ensure compliance with current federal and state tax laws and regulations.

Assist with responses to IRS and state tax agency notices as needed.

Maintain accurate and organized digital client files.

Collaborate with firm staff and partners to meet filing deadlines and workload demands.

Required Qualifications Previous experience preparing Form 1040 individual income tax returns.

Strong understanding of federal and state income tax rules.

Proficiency with tax preparation software (Drake, ProSeries, Lacerte, UltraTax, or similar).

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a CPA firm or public accounting environment.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, AFSP participant, or other tax preparation credentials.

Experience with small business returns and Schedule C filers.

Experience with Form 1041

Remote Work Requirements

Ability to securely handle confidential taxpayer information.

Familiarity with secure document-sharing and virtual meeting platforms.

Availability during normal business hours for client and team communications.

Firm-provided remote access and security protocols must be followed at all times to protect client data.

Job Type: Contract: Feb 1 - May 31, 2027 - option to be extended or a recurring yearly position is possible
