Counselor
Qualifications: Bachelors/Master's/Doctorate degree and valid Texas Counselor's Certificate or licensed Professional Counselor Certificate preferred. Two years' experience in classroom teaching.
Reports To: Campus Principal
Duty Days: 207
Job Goal: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance, including counseling services to school assigned. Use a planning period to define needs and priorities of population served. Provide a proactive, comprehensive guidance program for all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Pay Grade: Teacher's Salary Scale
FLSA: Exempt
Performance Responsibilities: Effectively plan and implement the school guidance and counseling program to meet identified needs. Teach the school developmental guidance curriculum. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop academic, career, and personal plans. Provide counseling to individuals and small groups relative to their concerns, postsecondary advising, annual student and parent counseling, and financial aid guidance (if applicable). Collaborate with district staff to administrate implementation of testing, appraisal programs, and services. Use of effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required. Comply with policies established by federal and state law. State Board of Education rule, and the local board in the area of guidance and counseling. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district. Maintain a positive, cooperative, and effective relationship with administrators and colleagues. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations. Effectively communicate with students, parent and community. Acknowledge and respond to current and changing student and community needs. Review the effectiveness of the guidance program and implement changes as appropriate. Develop and maintain effective relationship with students, parents, and staff. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students. Take the initiative to augment needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment through professional growth opportunities. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Serve as a professional resource to the staff and community. Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area of guidance and counseling to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. Performs other duties as directed by the assigned supervisor.
