Security OfficerSecurity Officers are responsible for protecting people and property by patrolling assigned areas, monitoring surveillance systems, controlling access, and responding to emergencies. They play a crucial role in maintaining a visible armed presence to deter criminal activity and respond to incidents as necessary and maintain a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and assets.Principal AccountabilitiesThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.Provides and/or implements security and security protocols for all assigned facilities.Takes proactive steps to provide a safe and secure working environment for staff and visitors.Provides specialized security for and monitors access to limited and restricted access areas such as inventory areas, network equipment areas, employee files, and confidential records.Conducts regular walk-throughs and security inspections for assigned facilities.Monitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and monitors crowdsContacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergencyAfter business hours, checks doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secure.Investigates reports of suspicious activity on the property.Reasonably detains persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrivesEscorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premisesRespond promptly and effectively to alarms, disturbances, and other emergencies, including fire, medical, and security incidentsProvide excellent customer service by interacting with all in a professional and courteous manner.Document all incidents, observations, and activities in detailed reports.Assist public with security protocol when entering through metal detectors and using x-ray equipment.Adhere to position dress code and maintain a professional and alert presencePerforms other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesExcellent observational skills and attention to detailAuthoritative verbal communication skillsAbility to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situationsAbility to learn the layout of the property and buildingsExperience & EducationHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED)Security guard training certification preferredPrior experience in security, law enforcement, or military preferredFirst Aid/CPR certification preferredPhysical Requirements/Working EnvironmentAbility to patrol the property and access areas quickly, regardless of weatherPhysically able to capture and detail individuals if necessaryProlonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipmentMust be able to lift 50 pounds at a timeMay require working irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays (as needed)Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThere are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.TravelTravel requirements will vary with the assignment.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Demonstrated proficiency in the safe handling and use of firearms is a mandatory requirement for this position.
