Security OfficerBrooklyn Navy Yard - Brooklyn, NY 11205OverviewSalary Range $20.00 - $20.00 HourlyDescriptionSummaryThe Yard is a 300-acre waterfront campus that's home to 550+ businesses employing more than 11,000 people. Security Officers ensure the safety and security of visitors, tenants, and employees while providing excellent customer service at various posts throughout the Navy Yard.Areas of ResponsibilityAccess ControlBe governed by, and demonstrate, Courtesy, Professionalism, & Respect during all assignments and interactionsStay alert to conditions requiring attention. Immediately report any crime, accident, hazard, or unusual activityMaintain activity log and complete daily reportsMotor PatrolConduct mounted and dismounted patrols of BNYDC areasEnforce traffic rules, monitor illegal dumpingAssist the Sergeant with relaying equipment and supplies to Officers on postsMonitor vessels at piers and dry docksMonitor vehicles parked at building loading docksAssist in directing or escorting emergency response vehiclesCommand CenterSupervise radio/communications checks with all posts following each shift change overCommunicate incidents or environmental information and activity that is observable via video surveillanceRecord all reports received by guard posts, radio, or telephone in the security databaseMonitor emergency services and marine base stations, inform appropriate gate or post of approaching emergency vehicles/vesselsTrack vessels by piers and dry docks. Report their name, ship type, general cargo type, arrival and departure timesReport degraded or interrupted video surveillance, access control, or communicationsPerform other job-related duties as assignedThe duties and responsibilities outlined above are not intended to limit specific duties and responsibilities of this position and may be modified as needed. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person, over radio, via written reports, etc.Strong punctuality and time management skills. Must be able to report to your shift/assigned post on timeProficiency with computers, radios, and video surveillance systemsQualifications8-hour & 16 hour Security Training Certificates requiredValid Security License requiredValid Driver's License requiredPreferred:Introduction to Radio Communications (LET540), Texas A&M Engineering Extension (or equivalent) (within three months)Certificate of Fitness F-01 Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment, City of New York (within three months)Certificate of Fitness F-04 for Temporary Indoor/ Outdoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (within three months)CPR / Basic First Aid /AED Training, American Red Cross or American Heart Association (within six months)Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) (LET543), Texas A&M Engineering Extension or APCO International (or equivalent) (within one year)
