Security Officer (In Training)George Washington's Mount Vernon is hiring full-time security officers (in training) to support visitor safety, estate security, and customer service across its historic grounds and buildings.Position Overview: Security officers maintain a professional presence, ensure the safety of visitors and staff, and respond to emergencies. The role includes both indoor and outdoor duties in historic settings, with opportunities for paid training and a comprehensive benefits package.Compensation & Schedule:Pay: $18.00/hour (increases to $20.00 after completing SCOP training)Hours: 40 hours/week/overtime availableBenefits: Medical, dental, life/disability insurance, paid vacation, retirement plan, flexible spending account, free parking, store discountsKey Responsibilities:Maintain a professional security presence and provide customer service at assigned postsEnsure safety and security of visitors, staff, and estate operationsRespond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents; take immediate action to prevent harm or damageProvide accident/incident reports and maintain all required security certificationsPerform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnelMinimum Qualifications:Age: 21+ yearsEducation: High school diploma or GEDCertification: Current Virginia D.C.J.S. SCOP registration; Fairfax County endorsement preferredExperience: Previous security/SCOP experience preferredBackground: Must pass thorough background investigation by Fairfax County PoliceLicense: Valid driver's license with clean driving and police recordsSkills: Excellent verbal/written communication, incident report writing, customer service, calm decision-making under pressureFlexibility: Ability to work weekends/holidays and non-traditional hoursSpecial Requirements:May require extended standing/walkingMust pass all background checks and training requirementsWork in varied indoor/outdoor settings, including historic buildings and public spacesWork Environment: Roles involve patrolling, surveillance, and guest interaction in all weather conditions, with potential for high activity periods.
